How many buttons joystick/joypad You use(d) with Amiga?
Since there is PC poll about this, maybe should be also for Amiga?
There are some games supporting more than one button, so such poll have sense. Joystick/joypads available for Amiga are/were with one, two, three and seven (CD32 ones and compatible) buttons. Please consider maximum number of buttons that You used. Last edited by Solo Kazuki; 10 July 2020 at 19:53. |

Dozens of Competiton Pro with one button. Why do you need more? It's an Amiga, where games can be played intuitively without learning button-assignments.

Excuse me, but there are games where You must use not only one button, where You must also use keyboard. Using joy with more buttons is more comfortable in this case.
Using just one button makes Amiga primitive hardware. As You said it's Amiga, not ZX... Quote:
Third button for joy is even more rarer than third button for mouse. There are just few games which support it. Last edited by lilalurl; 11 July 2020 at 16:13. |

Even back in my Atari 8-bit days, the single button thing was a limitation, and I modified some stick to be 2-button for games that supported it (usually by having a 2nd joystick plugged in).
On the Amiga I didn't play all that many joystick-only games, but I used (and still use) a single-button stick for some games that only use one button. Wherever possible however, I used multiple buttons. A CD32 controller was the main multi-button controller for me, and an analogue joystick that had 4 buttons. |

I had a master system pad that I used with games that supported more than one button. I remember finishing bc kid with it. But for the most part I used a Quickjoy Megastar which had one button only

Well now. As I said in the PC thread I did burn through a plethora of joysticks, but we always returned to the good old one button Arcade stick since we all loved it
This one specifically: https://www.commodore-info.com/joyst...ade/en/desktop So for the entire lifetime of my Amiga, I only had only one button to play with (with the occasional press on the keyboard, like in Turrican). Usually it was enough, only for games like Mortal Kombat did it feel like a limiting factor. |

Used to play all games with one button joysticks back in the day.
Now I'm using a modified Multi-Function joystick with 2 buttons, no joypads at all since I'm only interested in shmups these days. I suck at shmups using joypads |

One button for my real Amiga, for emulation I always use up for jump, but take advantage of the 2nd button for some beat'em ups or where the second button can be used instead of space for a special power.
I am also allergic to joypads. |

I would say 3 button if possible like Turrican, Alladin. I have wired a button to joystick, up. That way I have a jump button when needed. First when CD32 pad came, Commodore made support for many buttons. Just like one mention before in this thread, it depends on game.
1 button can be enough, most games it is not. I would say 2 button cover most. |

On the A500 and A1200 I had 2 comp pro joysticks, one I modded to have 2 fire buttons.
I did make a joypad before then as very good freinds of mine had a Toshiba HX10 MSX, many hours put into Nemesis 1 and 2, then needed a device to play Salamander with 2 players!! I bought a CD32 with just a PSU last year, had to blitz the local 2nd hand stores to find a joystick/pad. Lucky me, the local CEX had a megadrive pad, cleaned and modded it to work. |

I have my original SNES pads which are hooked up via a USB converter to my computer. I use them for just about everything, including Amiga. For me, they are the best game pads ever made, although "Up to Jump" is a pain, but joy2key sorts that out.
I have a six button Megadrive pad too which I'm using at the moment for gamedev. I also have a Quickshot Maverick 1 joystick, which Ironically doesn't seem to map the second button correctly. |

Up to jump on a gamepad is not great for most games indeed, but when I was using my Arcade stick it was incredibly intuitive.

I went to visit a colleague the other day. I spotted a box labelled "Atari". So I asked. "Why is that box labelled Atari"? The answer "Because it contains Atari machines." After opening it up, I literally fell flat on my ass.
There was my old friend, hiding in a box! |
