Games supporting 2 (ie. independent) fire buttons?
(Note: thought a bit about posting this into /support.games/ at first, but since this is not exactly about asking help to fix/play a game, + involves some recollection (and therefore nostalgia, as with all things Amiga ^^), well I hope I made the right choice in posting here after all)
[DISCLAIMER] To make things clear after reading the latest entries (page 4/5 of the thread): the point intended here is to list as _exhaustively_ as possible! ie. NOT limiting to any specific 2 (or MORE!!?) buttons support, nor excluding anything like eg. games natively not supporting more than one button (late/unofficial added support like WHDload is of equal interest), or games offering that support in particular conditions or on specific configs (like only for CD32, or only when using Sega gamepads, etc.). To put it short: The point is not about historical accuracy or anything like this but to list what Amiga-related games can be played with MORE than one button TODAY. Therefore EVERY game title fitting the theme of this thread in any way can (should!) be contributed, and if by ANY existing means (through any kind of patch, using any kind of Amiga config, joystick/pad controller, etc.) it proves possible to play an Amiga game using more than ONE button, then it is of interest to this list, and you're then more than welcome to contribute its entry --hopefully to get a comprehensive list eventually. (Whenever known, details about the origin/conditions of use of the >1 button support will be given -- don't forget to tell if you know any details about). [/DISCLAIMER] So, as a follow-up of sorts to this thread, it seemed like an interesting idea (to me anyways) to come ask your help in listing as many Amiga games as possible that feature support for a 2nd fire button on the joystick. I kinda reckon the list may prove pretty short [EDIT: Not so short anymore after your many contributions — thank you all guys!] but that should only make the job easier (or would it?). So here we go people, if you remember any particular game(s) supporting 2 or more fire buttons, please share your valuable knowledge about it below... Nice list for a start (all are pretty excellent games too!).
Was never aware that any of the Turrican games did propose the support!!! (Even though I owned a couple of 2 button sticks back in the days). I'll try that ASAP in WinUAE!! thx for the tip R-N! (EDIT: Ok, after trying it again with 2 buttons mapped in WUAE I realized I _was_ aware of the support in Turrican! ^^ I just forgot about it though...) Any others, people? ![]() Last edited by SunChild; 01 February 2011 at 03:47. |

I like Core. Twas always a favourite company of mine as I enjoyed many of their products and thought they often proved very well done in terms of production and gameplay. I never realized the 2 buttons support was a common feature of their games though.
Here's one more reason for me to praise them I guess! ^^ |

Thanks for your contributing BTW! That the original R-Type did support this comes once again as a total surprise to me... I got my 2 separate buttons joysticks rather late and I guess I just skipped playing many among the older games of my collection using them. Never too late to fix that though! ![]() |

Giana sisters, really?
Could you be more specific? I can't even start to figure out what the 2nd button could be used for... ![]() |

Right, Thx CyberDruid. That refered to the WHDLoad version again (I still don't have the reflex to try these, ha ha).
Mmmh, technically this is 2nd button support indeed, albeit not a very exciting one (AFAI'm concerned) since it maps an action (jump) already available anyway with the UP direction on the stick. That may be of interest for console gamers. I've personally always hated using a button to jump in any game (and invariably remap this function to UP direction where available), it just doesn't feel as much natural as merely pushing the stick up to perform. |

Found another...
Apparently Puggsy (platformer from Psygnosis) not only supports 2 buttons but they are indeed required to play it properly. |

The one I use here is switchable between 1 and 2 button modes.
It's the QuickShot Python and it has a turbo-fire switch too. There's a love/hate thread about them here on EAB, but I can't see anything wrong with the ones I have, I own four of them and they all work perfectly and feel great to handle. Here's the thread about them: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=37133 Last edited by Cammy; 17 February 2011 at 02:34. |
