DCTelnet 1.6 Won't launch
Hi All,
Anyone know why or how I can troubleshoot getting DCTelnet to launch on my Amiga 2000? When I double click it the top workbench black info bar flashes something but it is so fast I cannot tell what it is saying. I have Kickstart 37.175 and Workbench 38.35 Term 4.8 works but I thought DCTelnet would get me color and graphics. |

Try SnoopDos - http://aminet.net/package/util/moni/SnoopDos - if you're missing a library or other file DcTelnet is looking for, it might tell you.

I had a problem getting DCTelnet to run, my problem was that I had a old version of Reqtools in the libs: not the latest version which allowed you set the screenmode.
Don't know if that helps. |

Thanks. Well my main issue was getting a terminal to do ANSI / Color but I figured out how to get Term 4.8 to do it so maybe thats good enough. Not quite sure what the “best” terminal program to use is.

For calling BBSes? DCTelnet is the best. It should be easy to discern what library is missing by using snoopdos. I remember going through this myself a while ago.

OK with SnoopDOS I see that DCTelnet is failing on RamLib process when I try to launch it.
How do I go about fixing that? Do I need a newer version of that reqtools.library? |

Yep, I think when you have this installed you should be all set (unless it just gets further along and fails on something else :P )

Well installing the reqtools.lib from here https://aminet.net/package/util/libs/ReqToolsLib got me closer but now from within DCTelnet as soon as a choose any item from the menu the app crashes.
Screen shots attached: |

Having trouble finding that one. Looks like this https://aminet.net/package/dev/amos/BSDSocket is bsdsocket.amos and makes calls to bsdsocket.library.

Guess it's a deeper issue. found this info:
The bsdsocket.library is not a disk based library - it is created in memory when an Amiga TCP stack such as EasyNet successfully goes online. * looks like I need a TCP Stack... * AmiTCP got as far as the logging in as root and changing password section and then froze. But now that I see what is going on here I don't even think DCTelnet is the right app for me. I am using a WiModem modem emulator. I am not using TCP. DCTelnet used to work for me with Miami back in the 90s.
How are you connecting the Amiga 2000 to the internet? What's your connection setup? Can you ping on the Amiga? |

Yep - DCTelnet is a telnet client and needs a TCP/IP stack to be running. A WiModem connects to the Amiga's serial port and simulates a Hayes compatible modem so you just want a terminal emulator like Term. |
