New TOSEC Release

Hello to all,
on the occasion of the release of a new publication, I take the opportunity to present the TOSEC project. We are a group of enthusiasts whose goal is to classify digital copies of cassettes, floppy disks and cartridges of retro machines (including the Amiga of course!). This is the main branch. Another branch concerns CDRoms and the last one, concerns magazines and books related to the targeted machines.

What we propose? We publish between 2 to 3 times a year databases of media that have been found. They are grouped by type, then by machine, by theme and finally by format.

Extract of the DB structure :
Code:
TOSEC
|_TOSEC (main branch)
| |_...
| |_Commodore Amiga - Applications
| |_Commodore Amiga - Applications - Public Domain
| |_Commodore Amiga - Collections - Amiga Amateur Radio User Group
| |_...
|_TOSEC-ISO
| |_...
| |_Commodore Amiga - CD - Applications
| |_Commodore Amiga - CD - Compilations
| |_Commodore Amiga - CD - Coverdiscs
| |_...
|_TOSEC-PIX
  |_...
  |_Commodore Amiga - Artwork - Video
  |_Commodore Amiga - Books
  |_Commodore Amiga - Catalogs
  |_...
The databases are in XML format and the file extension is .dat. They contain a description of the media, size and checksums to formally identify them (CRC32+MD5+SHA1).
Code:
    <game name="Batman Rises (2022-12-09)(Batman Group)(Disk 1 of 2)">
        <description>Batman Rises (2022-12-09)(Batman Group)(Disk 1 of 2)</description>
        <rom name="Batman Rises (2022-12-09)(Batman Group)(Disk 1 of 2).adf" size="901120" crc="e5e77d3a" md5="c9758e07bde3a7cd5a9fdbf4ca4e50bb" sha1="a78d29c3c7aadb1f335b3d74341ccb4bb2a0404f"/>
    </game>
Okay, now what do I do with it? to use them, you will need a ROM manager. Here are the main :
RomVault
Clrmamepro
RomCenter

I personally use RomVault. It is very easy to use and I recommend it especially if you are a beginner.

What are they doing? These programs can analyze your personal collection, identify the ROMs, rename them and classify them.
Currently the Amiga database in its main branch can identify more than 92000 files (ADF, IPF, ROM, EXE...). More globally, the last publication offers 3764 dats identifiers 1201045 files for over 300 machines.

The official TOSEC page :

The official Amiga TOSEC sub-forum :
http://eab.abime.net/forumdisplay.php?f=33

Thanks to all the contributors, without whom the collection would not be as rich as it is today

I also take this opportunity to thank Turran, who through its FTP, hosts a large part of the files archived by TOSEC :

Now I know how to fill a 20TB empty HDD.

Is there a torrent file with all the releases somewhere?

Biggest archive that I found was sadly only 3.5 TB big.

There is no official release of the files by TOSEC and at the moment groups are actively looking for the new files. We won't waste their pleasure !?
It is likely that the files will be available on archive.org (with direct link and Torrent) and on Turran's FTP server for the Amiga part.

It is not uncommon for the release of a product indicating a year edition to be effective before the date indicated. Difficult to say if the product was really on sale only after 1991, but in any case, the master is dated 20/11/1991.
For your information, there is currently no archivist in charge of Amiga CDs. I can however make corrections but only on errors that have been verified.

Hey, hows everyone doing with their Tosec collection updates?

I've managed to 100% my AmstradCPC, Atari8bit, Atari2600, Atari5200, Atari7800, Jaguar, Lynx, ColecoVision, Dragon, GCEVectrex, Infocom, MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+, VirtualBoy, GameGear, MasterSystem, SinclairZX81 and SNKNeo-GeoPocket sets. Some tricky files to find here.

Commodore PET - 1 file missing - Vier Op Een Rij (4 In a Row) - Can't find it anywhere.
MegaDrive - 1 file missing - Metal Slug (masteries)(beta) - Itch.io now only holds beta2.

Which leaves 2 sets that i'm tackling today.

Commodore Amiga - 1568 missing (ouch)
Commodore 64 - 8024 missing (double ouch)

That C64 update was HUGE !!!
Well, back to hunting

According to the latest statistics on missing files:
- C64 > 0
- Amiga > 297

As every month for 2 years now, the Amiga Non-TOSEC have just been published. With a big change because the database is now divided in several datfiles ... like TOSEC
