@Retroplay are you still adding games or packs to http://whdownload.com/ ?
If so an NTSC only section would be nice. |

I don't think that was ever anything to do with Retroplay; more killergorilla and hosted by Magix i.e:
Copyright © 2007-2011 Magix. All Rights Reserved.Retroplay took over killergorilla's work Anyway, you can get all Retroplay's latest / constant updates from the EAB File Server under: Commodore_Amiga/Retroplay |

No, I never had anything to do with WHDownload.
TheCyberDruid (TCD) added some of my archives but that was way back in 2011. |

Turrican_v2.0_NTSC_1838.lha
I tried this and it runs in PAL mode. Tried using the NTSC switch in WHDLoad and the menu screens are cut off. I guess this is a mistake or just a lazy NTSC release from the original publisher? |

Yeah it seems so. Tried both on NTSC and they look the same. The screen is shifted down but it visible fullscreen on NTSC.

I guess this NTSC project includes games like Stunt Track Racer, F40 Pursuit Simulator, Speed Buggy, Aquablast? They are just listed as regular releases without an NTSC label. Also is it for SPS backups only?

WHDLoad NTSC versions!
This project is to find and dump NTSC variants of games that are usually PAL format games. Not for a lot of the older games which were NTSC anyway. Games like Gods and Xenon 2 are usually found in the PAL format. The NTSC versions are rarer to find, but have been found. There is no difference in IPF and the real disk as this is to just get a working dump of the original game for WHDLoad. The search is on!

hi guys,
what's the big difference between playing 50 hz games to 60 hz and playing ntsc games ??? the size of the screen i suppose. more fps ?? lower resolution in ntsc, when the game was really a full screen pal game, like ntsc is restricted to 320x240 vs 320x256. Ntsc is it like a pal game switch to 60 hz but with music at the good speed ? is there game with smoother scrollings or animations ?? It supposed to be the case but is there a game that i can really see the difference ?? Because i tried some ntsc games and saw no difference but when i play a pal game and switch it to ntsc (when it doesn't crash) i can see a speed up. What did you notice about ntsc games, seriously ?? |

Well ultimately NTSC is going to have the benefits of matching every modern monitor running at 60Hz this translates into smoother scrolling and gameplay in various situations.
Another benefit is slightly lower input latency too. If a game supports NTSC then it most likely never benefited from the increased PAL resolution in the first place. There are however PAL games that use the extra resolution and have no NTSC version. Edit: Even though WHDLoad will let you force NTSC on games that isn't an indicator of true NTSC support. WHDLoad NTSC versions!
Running a PAL game on NTSC (if it even works) will make it run a little faster. You do lose some of the screen at the bottom. Most PAL games do not run on NTSC though, some do.
Some of us prefer NTSC as that is what we are used to, and what we use in our country. Most of my Commodore monitors and TV's are NTSC. Though most of my monitors (except the Amiga 1080) do work fine with PAL. Plus I prefer to fill the screen when playing my NTSC games. When running a NTSC game on PAL, you get that infamous black gap at the bottom of the screen! What is annoying is when some games are made in Europe and they don't use the whole PAL screen resolution but it only runs on PAL! Some recent examples are games like: The Great Giana Sisters SE and the newly released StarQuake! They require PAL to run, but only use a "NTSC sized" 320x200 screenmode.
