UNCONFIRMED: Castle of Dr. Brain (Illegal Instruction)
i've found an illegal instruction break in Castle of Doctor Brain, (your pack from yesterday) when entering the screen with the codes.
Winuae + ClassicWB, JIT enabled. i was in the screen with the 3 doors (the second screen of the whole game) and i had solved the 3 doors/puzzles, got back in screen one (the main door to the castle) and got back in the hallway, clicked on the far door > screen with the code access > illegal instruction. if you like to, (i'm not sure if the purpose of the thread is exactly this) we can add an entry for a game like this one, ask for check by someone else, and then adding it to the main list for Whdload submission? |

Hi marco,
just been trying to get this to give me an access fault but it always let me enter the code and then let me in the door, I couldn't get any kind of illegal instruction sorry! You using the English version or the German one? Quote:

![]() ClassicWB, no scalos, no JIT tryed again Castle of Dr Brain, this is what happens. it starts, it pass the logo screen, it gets to the intro screen it asks if i want to skip it. i do; it opens a requester teliing me the memory is fragmented (does it refers to the HD? my games are stored in a hdir HD for Winuae). i did not understand what option i really checked on, because the mouse pointer was in "wait mode" on it. i clicked a couple of times, first on "yes, defragment" then on "no, who cares" then finally the game starts. i'm at the doorway, all seems ok. i click on the door, which tells me to ring the bell. i do. game crashes: Exception "Privilege Violation" ($20) at $10F368F6 (ExpMem $8F6) occured. [edit] is it worth to try other setting than NOCACHE, if i do not know exactly what they do? i'm not sure but aren't these commands more related to a real machine whereas on emulation, part of them at least are ruled through winuae? |

Maybe you have some other problems? You use KG's pack version? Works fine here with WinUAE/CWB at the door, using the bell.

I got that fragmentation question when I was running in on WinUAE with JIT but it ran flawlessly without JIT on my "closer to a real amiga" config.
I've never had a privelege violation on my real Amiga (I know it can happen though, Retro-Nerd has seen it) and when I do get them, generally making the emulation "stricter" gets rid of them. I'll take a look at Mystical some time soon, I presume it's in my packs! |

i think that these crashes happens randomly in the first 20 minutes of play. i cannot say that there could not be other problems absolutely, but i use the standard ClassicWB with its standard configurations, i found it pretty stable usually. |

I can't confirm your ingame crahes after app. 20 minutes (never played it long enough), but i get no "Privilege Violation" at the front door, no "memory fragmented" requester.

First run, a simple whdload *.slave preload nommu nocache (just to make sure
![]() Second run: whdload *.slave preload ntsc mmu cache (here's asking for trouble, but a bit faster, ja). Solved the indoor puzzle, Saved. Solved the magic numbers puzzle, entered the last doors (didn't input anything), saved. Solved all the other puzzles, entered the final doors (didn't input anything), saved. Quit to check the codes. Another run, yet again with whdload *.slave preload ntsc mmu cache. Restored, entered last door, inputting codes and entered another room. The voice said "You are now fucked" ... oh, I mean "You now have 60 seconds." So I've saved on a different position than before. Quit. Last edited by Shoonay; 14 December 2007 at 11:03. |

i presume the errors i've found are only in winuae, possibly due to some settings. (however the settings i used are the default ones with the ClassicWB config)

Running this game on my A1200T through WHDload.
The English version from KGs pack runs dog slow. The German version runs at least 4x more quickly. The tooltypes are the same for both slaves. Both slaves were written by JOTD; Version 1 wiritten 16/03/06. Will of course check for newer slave... But why would there be this difference? |
