One of the best things about the ACA500+ is you just plug it in, and a few minutes later you have WB booting from a CF card. Nothing else is needed, no looking up how to do it, etc. (For 32GB+ CF you must look up how to remove non-FAT partitions in Windows, but Amiga is not to blame for that ofc, and it has nothing to do with any HW expansion for Amiga.) And for purists that run e.g. original software that can't handle any expansion, it has the Cloaking Device menu to make the Amiga vanilla, so you never have to unplug the ACA. |

As it's been suggested, I too would recommend installing a Pistorm - except for a lightning speed Amiga (some 1,600-1,700 times faster than stock with the current Emu68 on a Pi3a), you get all this: - about 300 MB Fast RAM or more, - Wi-fi, - 27-30 MB/sec speed "HDD" on an sd card, - the ability to swap kickstarts from image files as you see fit, - RTG through HDMI with high res 32-bit colors, - The ability to redirect slow ram to chip ram (expansion card), so that you WON'T have to modify your motherboard (!) - and probably something that I've forgot, or what's in store in the future (AHI, USB, FrameThrower upgrade option which automatically switches from HDMI to RGB when needed)... The best however, is the cost; a fraction of what any other option would cost you. I think I paid around 50-60 Euro total when I bought one for my CDTV some 3 years ago, and I wouldn't part from it again, not ever! Last edited by brufnus; 16 August 2024 at 03:33. |

Aca500+ is the best thing ever. Easy to set up, just works.
You can even run gotek from an external drive, without ripping out your internal floppy. I still love loading a floppy. In my opinion they should make an cheaper less bulky version without the processor, 1200 expansion slot. Just ram and cf slots(or maybe sdcards and usb instead), and an neat gotek solution. I dont care about expanded amigas at all, i just want classic amiga (500, 1200) with quality of life features. That makes it easier to manage files, use whdload and such. If that is what you want. Aca500+ is with ease the best thing right now. I wish i had one for my a1200. |

I agree with this. Floppy drives were a terrible bottleneck for the Amiga back in the day. It's great to see how capable the A500 was with a bit more ram and access to mass storage. The ACA500+ is by far the most convenient way to add these. It lets me realise my childhood dreams of having one of those costly GVP add-ons. I enjoy tinkering so I've also been trying out an internal IDE / fast ram board in one of my other A500s. This is a bit cheaper than the ACA500+ in terms of component costs, but definitely not when you factor in the time and effort. |
