Which drive with Greaseweazle V4

Hi,

I'd like to buy a Greaseweazle V4 as my Hxc and Gotek are dead.
It's to write and read DD disquettes between PC<->Amiga.
My question is : which disk drive should I use with it ? A simple PC one could be good ? Or is it mandatory to use an Amiga one ?
Thanks,

You can use either drives Amiga or PC, but I find a lot of Greaseweazle users use the sony MPF920 floppy drives, I am using one with mine

Essentially any PC 3.5 inch floppy will do as mechanically they are compatible, it's the controller that makes the difference. I use a TEAC drive in mine, even 3D printed an enclosure so everything is in one nice box. I used to use a KryoFlux but a malfunctioning 8 inch floppy drive ended up frying it recently.
Here is the enclosure that I used.

A PC drive is a more flexible choice, it's best to save Amiga drives for Amigas. :-)

Sorry, I forgot to ask.
If I use a PC diskdrive, does the twisted cable the good one ? Or should I use a straight one ?

Get a twisted cable as the end connecter will be the A drive and a drive before the twist will be a B drive if you say put two drives on the cable

From the docs:

Quote:
By default the V4 boards acts like an IBM-PC controller addressing Drive A: This assumes a PC floppy drive and a ribbon cable with a 'twist' on pins 10-16.

A common alternative setup is a PC drive with straight ribbon cable. In this case you must select drive B (--drive=b)

Another common setup is an Amiga, Atari ST, or other vintage drive which responds to drive-select DS0 (pin 10). In this case you must use a straight cable and select drive 0 (--drive=0).
