[WIP] Super Pumpkin Bros
I think it's better to continue the WIP of SPB here. More suitable than the other thread.

Another video of a coding session.
- Changing the way the character go down from a plateform. - Changing the way the mega bomb is released. Now the bomb is not stored in HUD panel but released when picked up. - Changing the way icon bonuses are displayed. They are meant to scintillate. But I was tired and I didn't manage to finish it within the allowed time. Still buggy. The video is troncated because YT doesn't allow videos bigger than 15 mins. Edit : Just notice that I've received a CD Baby Sync Publishing Youtube claiming they own the rights for the Commodore 64 music I added on the video. Seriously... [ Show youtube player ] . |

Do not feel sad if that video will get negative ranking, very few people can appreciate matrix encrypted.

Do you have an option for 'director' accounts that should allow longer videos?

One of the quickest ways to get negative votes on YouTube is to make people feel stupid by showing them something they don't understand.
You can enable longer uploads by verifying your Google account via mobile. |

Always great to see another retro game project!

All music is copyright and cannot be used in anything without a license granted from the rights holder. It's just that in 99% of the cases the rights owner either don't know, or else they don't care. As a musician myself I wouldn't want my music used in anything without my permission either. My tracks are offered to gamedevs, some exclusively, so I obviously can't allow other entites to use it. Maybe it was a similar scenario here, who knows. |

Even if what you say is really true, the people who cannot appreciate "matrix encrypted" should not forget that before anything nice can hit the screen, development environment is the only thing developers see ...

Not sure what the sense is in showing code instead of the actual game, but if that's your thing, all is good...

@saimon69 : I didn't find the option. Will look more in detail for next video.
@dreamkatcha : Yes you're right, I just find it but I'm not sure I'd like to give my phone number to Google. @MisthaLu : I contacted Jason Page the author of the music I used. He didn't know his music was protected. May be it's problematic because it's a cover of Chris Huelsbeck's tume ? @malko : @Steril707 : You're so right ! I screw up when shortening the video, I cut the sequence where the game screen test appears. Will do more effort next time, but it's problematic because I never know if I could achieve a goal during a limited session duration. |

It's the song played during you enter your name in table score. [ Show youtube player ] |

Yup, that's it then. Chris most likely handed over the rights to a record company when he started selling albums. From that moment it's out of Chris' hands too. And these days it's all automatic, detected by algorithms. Generally speaking, just avoid doing a cover without asking permission, and never use any music without permission and/or a license. |

Been there -_- Got a cover of an italian song made in protracker in the 90s taken down on Vimeo because of that - author is too famous to even answer email and mechanical licenses are NOT cheap

Been working on the first big boss.
This boss consist of several parts. Pros : more easy for anim. Cons : more blitter time eater. It took me ages to program bobs clipping. For 32 pixels wide bobs no need but for a big boss I had to code one (I was afraid of coding it). I didn't imagine bob clipping could eat so much raster time, but as the big boss is only one, at last it don't eat so much cpu time. Plus, the boss will never reach left or top border, so no need to code this clipping parts. The hardest part is the way boss behave. To be honest when I started I had no idea at all how to program that without falling in a total spaghetti code. Finally took a choice. I have started to code a "script" manager. Each action of boss is cut into simple actions. This script contains an action code, plus entry params. This way, no need to rewrite the same action several times. For exemple : Let's take the simple action "walk from right to left". I code the action as #B1MARCHGD into script list, plus a parameter xmin (absciss of boss to reach). The main loop loads action code and params then jump to a general sub program which dispatch to the dedicated routine. Next is adding some "nomal" monsters in the same screen. Hero uses these monsters to hit the big boss. Will need a good balance and interesting bb patterns. |

One video of boss.
The video contains a code session crash. And at the end of video a sample (short) of big boss of end town. There will not be other boss videos to not spoil. Thanks for the team for being soooooo patient. Waiting for team feedback for bug and suggestions. To do : Next in line, death of big boss. [ Show youtube player ] |
