1230 MKIV price after Vampire 1200 release

Hello,

with the new vampire cards for A600/A500 and then for the A1200 i would like to know your opinion about what is about to happen to prices of old Accelerator cards.
I have a nice Phase 5 Blizzard 1230 MKIV that i love. But i would like to have a Vampire for the A1200.
Prices went crazy for the 1230, i saw that it could go for more then 200/250 euros.
So, what do you think it will be the price for a 1230 mkiv after the release of a vampire 1200 ?
I don't want to spend more money in a new card, so i consider selling it to buy the vampire. If the price is going to drop a lot, i may want to sell it soon, i don't know. The card is great, is difficult to take a decision.

How much is the actual value and how much will it be after Vampire 1200?
Sorry if someone post a similar post

Thanks

The price will be whatever the market for it dictates. I don't think it will crash that much, only time will tell. Collectors will still want genuine Amiga hardware, I won't be selling mine in a hurry.
If you don't have the money available for a Vampire, then by all means sell the Blizzard to get the Vampire.
You can check the current going rate for them by browsing eBay and Amibay.

Not gonna venture a guess, but can we all agree that Blizzard 030 mk IV were getting a wee bit high for what you get? Maybe the Vampire will push the Blizzard prices to more "sane" levels... But as the other poster said, probably not gonna crash completely as its still a good card, and ppl keep them for various reasons. (e.g. I'm not selling my 060 card after the V1200 is released, because.. well. because I don't need to and because I like to keep some stuff that was actually built back in the day.)

Yep, same here. I've a 1230 IV and 1260 here and probably won't be selling either of them, so I'd expect the price to dip a little but you certainly won't be finding them for £20!

Once there are plenty of Vampires in circulation, so the prices of the older hardware will drop, less a sellers market, more a buyers market.

People are stubborn though and will still want the genuine hardware. Even though the Vampire is real it's just emulation of a CPU, I think a lot of purists will fight it and want 20-30 year old hardware for a long time to come. What the prices will be is anyone's guess though, 030 Blizzards have to drop if you ask me they are ridiculous already but 060's not so much I think.... we'll see!

Blizzards & Cyberstorms are on a constant price rise since I got mine, way back in 2010.
If the release of the various ACA cards didnt cause their price to drop, I doubt anything will.

But, time will tell...

In any case, I wont be selling mine unless I'm starving and need the money for food!

It's an implementation of a compatible 68K CPU, there's no emulation involved.
FPGA is to ASIC what Eprom is to ROM.

@ Tiago

like others have said the Vampire is great but many of us won't be selling/giving away our original/old school accelerators anytime soon especially not my CSMKIII in my A4000

@Predseda
100 eur... :-) i will only consider selling it to change for a new card. And never below 200/250.

I am in Portugal, and i consider to have a salary high above average, but still low compared to
UK, Germany, and so many others. 200/250 euros its a lot of money. 250 if half a minimum salary here.

I understand the value of a Blizzard, much of it is for sentimental and historical reasons, and sure it'a great card.
But i cannot, or dont want to spend money in a new card, so selling the 1230 to buy a new one could be a solution.
But it would have to be for 250 or something like that.

I agree that many people will not sell their Blizzards. But, i guess that many people that don't have one, will go for a Vampire if
they don't have none.

Thanks for your thoughts

Another issue that might keep the prices up close to the current level, is that cards will eventually start to fail.

There are repairshops/skilled technicans that do this on their sparetime, so if people want to maintain their old hardware, they will.
But I do suspect that more and more cards will vanish from circulation just because people cant be bothered to pay half the value of the cards just to fix/maintain them.

For example, I just sent my A1200 for recapping and overall maintenance to Retroservice.no. It will probarly cost me close to the value of the A1200 if I picked it off Ebay/amibay....BUUUT, its MY A1200. My precious! (Im going to ask retroservice to do a full checkup of the cards)
And I have even a Vampire 600 on order (Plan to get A1200 too, IF the connectiors issue wont kill that project as Predseda says)
But I will never sell my Blizzard.

I have no proof for it, but I suspect the price of the cards wont drop much at all.

If Vampires for 1200 will ever become a reality, due to the edge connectors problem

To me it will remain identical. Different products address different markets. I'd love to buy a 2nd blizzard 060 card as a spare but I know I'll pay it the same price than before...

FPGA cores will probably get more or less 100% accurate but unlikely to ever get to 100% compatibility of the original hardware so people will always want the real deal. Especially collectors who are the people who drive up prices.

Doesn't look like many people will sell theirs to get the vampire so there will not be a glut of them on the market.

Will have to prise my Blizzard 040/ppc out of my cold dead hands
