Can you ping your router? Or ping your amiga? Can you ping 8.8.8.8? And google.co.uk?
What are you using? Miami, roadshow, amitcp, genesis? |

You'll need to configure Miami settings for your Network card. Things like Static or DHCP based IP address; Subnet Mask; Default Gateway; DNS Server; Etc....

Now try to ping your router, which is the next step where your data should go. If you don't know your router's IP address, you can find that from router's settings or from some other computer (PC for example). IP address of the router is usually 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.254, 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.0.254, and on other computers it's called as Gateway. If that gives you ms values for time, all is good at this point too. If not, check your gateway settings and put router's IP address there if it's not ok. When that's working, try if your data goes to outside Internet by pinging 8.8.8.8 which is IP address of Google's public nameserver. If that also works, your problem is in DNS (nameserver) settings, check those in Miami. You can usually have your router as your nameserver, so put that router's IP address there. You can also define other nameservers, like the one your ISP is giving you (check that from your ISP's homepage, from your network contract, or from PC's settings). Third option is to use that Google's nameserver mentioned previously. |

Miami's DHCP doesn't work very well in a lot of cases, so it might not be settings itself up with an IP address, which would prevent you from pinging anything. What you should do is use the router's settings to reserve the IP address for the Amiga's MAC address, then set that address statically on the Amiga. Alternatively, if that's not an option on your router, check which IP range is used for DHCP addresses and assign the Amiga a manual address outside that range.

Your PCMCIA card will have its on MAC address, you do not allocate one to it.

The MAC address is usually printed on your card.

Can you install MiamiDX? Here are the links: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=35373 Here's the link on how to configure it with 3c589.device [ Show youtube player ] Answer 1: Insert your card into PCMCIA slot. Download this program: http://aminet.net/package/comm/net/sanautil Unpack it and copy it to your SYS:C drawer Now, open CLI/Shell and type in: sanautil STATUS -d DEVS:Networks/3c589.device -u 0 It should provide you with all the info. Alternatively, once you've installed MiamiDX then go to SanaParameters 1:45 in this video [ Show youtube player ] and press Querry device. Answer 2 I'd go for DHCP now. It's a lot better with MiamiDX than the first Miami. Answer 3 Previous answers will confirm if your card is working. However, if you download this one: http://aminet.net/package/driver/net/cnetdevice You'll find CARDINFO program. It might be helpful. Hope all the above helps you a bit. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I'll gladly help. |

Often your router will have a function for listing the connected devices and their MAC addresses - you can probably find your Amiga on that list and allocate an IP that way.

Does the SANAUTIL and Querry in MiamiDX SanaParameters work and display the MAC addreess of the card?
Does the CardINFO show the card? What is your setup? Do you use ClassicWB or any other prepared system? Do you have CardReset and CardPatch in your S-s? |
