A1000 options for the keyboard
It seems that this week has been the worst ever for me; after having issues with my 1200, now my A1000 keyboard is gone forever. I did look everywhere and it is not with the Amiga unit...just waiting that the house will burn down at this point
Considering that I do not have any other keyboard (A200 or A3000); and the prices on Ebay are out of this world; what options do I have to use the A1000? Would the serial port works somehow with an arduino, to send out keyboard events? Is there an adapter for PS2 style keyboards? Software keyboard so at least in WB I can use the mouse to type? All that I found is an adapter for an A2000-A3000 keyboard, which sadly is of no use for me |

There are adaptors to use a standard PC PS/2 keyboard on an Amiga 2000, 3000 and 4000. The connector is different on the 1000 but the protocol is the same, so if you can find an adaptor for using a 2000 keyboard on a 1000, you can use that with a PS/2 PC adaptor. It's a funky string of adaptors but it should work.
I'm sure you could get an Arduino to talk to it, there is already source out there for the PS/2 adaptors that could easily be modified to work. |

I see, so it is a chain between a PS2->A2000->A1000
That should be simple enough I guess; although a single adapter would be more than welcome. Found a user on Amibay that did sell an adaptor but it was back in 2014, and I can't find any trace of such adaptor on any site. So this is the only way I guess; I have to hunt down 2 adapters instead of one |

I used my A1000 keyboard with my A3000 with a few wires, so I know the opposite is possible.

The problem is that I do not have neither an A2000 nor an A3000 keyboard, so PS2 is my only option |

There is someone on eBay selling adapters to plug into the CIA socket.
It features an USB option, you can even add specific wireless keyboards. Would be the easiest and cheapest solution as you could use cheap USB keyboards. |

When the A2000s came out, the A1000 keyboard was turned in as proof of purchase for a discount on the 2000. So A1000s without keyboards should be common enough.
Keyboard pinouts are listed at http://www.sacc.org/mouse-joy-keyb/a-keyboard.html If you're an AVR programmer, try the PS/2 adapter at https://gitlab.com/hkzlab-retrocomputing/AKAB_Reloaded Otherwise try the Lyra 3 BigBox https://icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/shop/...-adapters.html Or for USB http://retroami.com.pl/index.php?id_...sum+&results=6 |

I do recall that; in fact my A1000 came without the keyboard or mouse; I had to hunt down both; the easiest part was to find a 1084 monitor (and the cheapest too).
They did something similar for the A500 too, although they did ask for the whole computer, not just the keyboard. I will try the AVR PS2 project, if I can figure out the schematics They Lyra3 does not seem to support A1000, I wish my Lyra adapter for the 1200 would work on the A1000. |

My A1000 is running right now using my old B2000 keyboard thanks to a cheap adapter from eBay. Logic demands that an AT to PS-2 (that's just a passive size thing) converter and one of the modern PC keyboard adapters should complete the chain and get you home safe with your choice of PC keyboard.
Anyone have an A1000 keyboard for sale? |

Why don't you just try the eBay adapter for the USB keyboard? |

For the adapter, look out for seller 'electronica4u'.
I may have misunderstood you. Is it important for you to have an original Amiga-Keyboard attached, even is from an A2/3/4K ? |

Actually I don't mind what keyboard I use; I just want to use one, in the meantime that I find an original A1000 keyboard. I do often visit auctions where they sell a bunch of old electronics, so sooner or later, something will pop up. |

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but i was wondering, is there a way to interface an A500's keyboard to the A1000? Anyone managed to interface the two?

Remove transistor Q1, then wire up +5 gnd clk dat to the correct pins at the A1000. You can use a 4P4C phone handset cord as the cable.

@Jope: Thanks dude! Is that all it takes? And by the way, are all A500 keyboards identical? (not controller-wise, but pinout - wise)

That's all it takes. Yes, the data cable pinout is the same among all A500 keyboards
