USB keyboard adaptor for A500 and more

So I purchased a USb keyboard adaptor for my A500. It supports more models but you'll have to read the product description at the link below for a complete list.

USB Amiga Keybaord Adaptor

It was a pretty straight forward install without any documentation. Only the photo on the ebay page to guide you so I took more of my own attached.

You remove your 8420A-1 chip and insert the adaptor into it's slot as shown then put your original chip in to the adaptor as shown, connect the wire that comes off the adaptor and optionally replace your keyboard connector.

I have both attached for now but will not be using the A500 keyboard once I transplant everything into a full sized tower case.

I numbered the attachments to match the order of steps. Except the first one - it's out of order but I wanted to show the adaptor first, I had already removed the chip from mainboard and inserted in to adaptor at this point.

Last photo shows a wireless HP keyboard and a quick test of the functionality via shell. Seems to work great. At some point I'll have to check all the key mappings and figure out how they all work in regards to PC->Amiga translation. Then I'll probably order custom keyboard stickers to better match the PC KB keys to Amiga functionality.

I should mention that it might be picky. I first tested with a Dell wired USB keyboard and it did not work at all. Turned off Amiga, attached the Wireless HP one instead and it worked.

I should also not that it takes a lot of force to get the adaptor seated tight. I was afraid I was going to snap my Amiga in half. But nope, no damage done.

How long did you have to wait for it being shipped?

I ordered 3 adapters on Monday, then got an automated reply back saying:
"We just wanna inform you that your order just beeing processed now.
Please be patient, status of this order should change shortly!"

but we are now Sunday and I haven't hear anything back, and the status on eBay says "No estimate available".

I ordered it on June 12th and had an expected delivery date of June 30 - July 4.
You will get expected delivery date once it ships and the tracking number is on eBay. A few days for that to update.

This is great! So it should work in any Amiga with that style of 8520 CIA, correct? My CDTV would like this

Can I please get the model number of that HP wireless keyboard Sinphaltimus?

I've got the A600 version of this adaptor, and can't find a compatible keyboard amongst my collection.

All the keyboards on the compatibility list seem easy to buy in Poland, but dead set impossible to buy anywhere else!

Happy

An update on this. For Australian and South East Asia users, the HP equivalent part number is J8F13AA . It is called the "HP Wireless Classic Desktop". It's AUD$28 from Harvey Norman.

When paired with the electronika4you keyboard adaptor, this is, by far, the best typing performance I've seen on the Amiga so far.

Previously I've used the Elbox PC-Key 600, and the 7bit Sum A600 USB Keyboard adaptor and both of them can't keep up with my typing. They either miss characters, or repeat keystrokes.

This eletronicka4u adaptor though, keeps up perfectly with no lag and no missed characters! Perfect!

Awesome to hear!

I have a question - where did you get the firmware update? I tried getting to their site from their ebay link when i made my purchase and it didn't work for me. I'd like to get the updated firmware and any documentation i can. It's a bit strange with the key translation so it really took me a while to figure out that CTRL+ALT+DEL reboots the Amiga just like on a PC.

Please share sources - thanks!

EDIT - well some of the links work now and I got the updater but it appears to be all about a different adaptor. Perhaps later in the video. Anyway, any additional help is appreciated.

Oh, that's a different adaptor. The one I got is from electronika4you - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Connect-favo...72.m2749.l2649

And I see ctrl+alt+del in their listing, and got their update tool but the update instructions and the pdf I got from their site is for the USB mouse adaptor. i sent a msg to the seller.
