Is Zorram for AmigaOS 4.1 absolutely necessary?

I'm going to get OS 4.1 to "play with it". Is Zorram absolutely necessary since there is 128mb on the CyberstormPPC. Is it only used when doing things which require lots of memory like browsing the net? Does it slow down the system too much when doing so on OS4.1?

If I really need it, do I need the 256mb one or would the 128mb be enough?

I have some other card as well (Vlab motion, XSurf100 (ordered a couple of minutes ago), Toccata (lost at home at the moment), Peggy+ (won't be using it and will give it to a friend for him to watch "things" on his Amiga). I might get an Indivision in the future once I get everything set up and running once again.

I guess using that many cards might be a problem if I get the 256mb version? Am I right?

ZorRam is only used as SWAP and write speeds are only about 7mb/sec IIRC, would be faster to setup a SWAP partition on an UW SCSI drive up to 30mb/sec

So I wouldn't buy ZorRam just for 4.1, but it's certainly useful as Fast Ram in 3.x

But that doesn't help any visitors to this forum. We should always post for the ages. If someone in the future digs this thread up with a search, he'll feel a bit stymied.

Not really. On 3.1,You can still use SWAP using Gigamem on a fast drive.
