Amiga 500 not Booting
Hi before we start, I want to thank in advance the opportunity you give us to repair our beloved Amiga.
I have an Amiga 500 from a friend, who has failed to boot from four years ago. When connected via RGB / Scart or with the modulator, just get a screen between black and green but no menu appears asking the Workbench. Could you give us any idea to fix it? Also I found a faulty component in the zone of CN2, a capacitor is bad if I have not understood. Specifically is numbered as C421, I understand that this connector should only affect the game connector, but good because I want to ensure I'm repairing. Thank you very much." |

Thanks for the info, I checked the Amiga and do not really know where to start with these testings, for now still shows no picture, I appreciated that I think if it gets started because the caps lock key if I can enable and disable it but still no screen image , recommend changing the memory chips?

Please wait for someone more experienced with Amiga hardware. You can also try to connect via black & white output ('mono' label).

Reseat all socketed chip first but be careful with Agnus socket, it can break easily if you don't use correct chip removal tool.

Black screen means that likely the CPU, ROM or connections between them are bad. Green screen is bad memory (or memory interface chips). If you some times have green screen and other times a black screen, it indicates some bad connection somewhere, probably due to corrosion. Reseat all chips (except Agnus) like previously suggested as that could clear up some connections. Also, verify that your video cable and PSU is actually working on another Amiga.

Agnus is also a prime culprit for a green screen, but you can start by just pushing down on it a bit.

Is it an Amiga 500+. open it up and check, if there is a battery on the board and it has leaked then that would be the prime suspect. Remove any extra ram, floppy drives, swap over the CIA chips and see if that fixes it.

green screen is most likely a memory fail,so its anything on the memorys data path,74 logic gary and even agnus and sometimes the memory itself.
