game saves

hi sorry for the NOOB question but I just tried playing Elite using WinUAE and having trouble saving games. I get the message:

"The software uses a non-standard floppy disk format. You may need to use a custom floppy disk image file instead of a standard one. This message will not appear again"

Does this mean I need to get an image file of a blank disk before I can save? Seems odd they didn't build a blank disk or hard drive into the software that just uses ur PC hard drive space?

In WinUAE on the floppy panel just use 'Create Custom Disk'. You can also use the savestate function on the miscellaneous panel.
