Smile Upgrade options on my 4000D

Hi Guys,
I have a standard A4000D EC030, I have put 3.1 roms in and workbench 3.1.
I want to know about Co Proceesers not really intrested in the crystal oscillator, more intrested in the Co pro and what my options are,I`m not looking to spend a lot really but I would like a flicker fixer and GFX card, but have the standard daughter board in so if anyone can give me any ideas i only want to do mess about on workbench maybe get back in to my artwork and that but it would nice to see workbench in a higher screen mode and run a little faster.

Thanks in advance

That statement makes no sense.

I assume you did not mean "Coprocessors" but actually meant "CPU board".

Best value CPU board upgrade would be something like a WarpEngine040 or an Apollo 4040 at about £150 including 128 Mbyte RAM.

Zorro graphics card wise you cannot beat the Picasso IV also about £150

Just keep your eye on Ebay and Amibay for the items you want.

The really cheap CPU upgrade option is to get an A3640, lots floating about from all the people that upgraded A4000s, I personally wouldn't pay more than £40 for one, it will give a decent turn of speed over the 030, but not as much as any of the 3rd party 040/060 accelerators. Downsides are, same capacitor issues as the A4000 motherboard itself - you will need to replace them at some point, and as an added bonus a couple are installed backwards, and the big one, you're limited to RAM on the motherboard/Zorro cards, which given the price fastlanes and DKB 3128s go for effectively limits you to 16MB on the motherboard, and 8MB of very slow ZII RAM if you really need it enough to live with the performance hit. if you want more it makes more sense to go for a better accelerator with onboard RAM.
For flickerfixer, if cost were no object I'd look at the indivision, but I've already got a full length video slot AGA one that cost significantly less, that is an option though the majority are designed for the A2000/3000 video slot, and will work, at the expense of full colour depth and some fiddling with brackets if it's been designed with an A2000 in mind. This is moot if you get a PIV as that should come with one built in.

I strongly recommend checking the capacitors for bulging and leakage but if they are OK then leave them alone. Replacing them, especially on the A4000 motherboard, can be both expensive and has a certain level of risk itself.

If you get an A3640 make sure it is a revision 3.1 or a 3.0 which has already been fixed.
