AmTelnet

How can I get a license file for AmTelnet now that VaporWare doesn't sell it anymore? I need it because of its SSH capabilities.

Alternatively, are there any other programs on the Amiga that can connect to a SSH server? I've searched Aminet with no luck.

Hi Caius,

I found a Amiga port of OpenSSH : http://www.chernoff.org/amiga/
I don't know but maybe that's helpful.

I hope it doesn't need ixemul.library.

it does need the ixemul.library. strings from the ssh binary:
Need at least version 48 of ixemul.library.
is it a problem?

nah I just prefer ports that don't need to ixemul.library. I have lots of respect for those coders.

I ended up getting the NetConnect 3.1 CD, since AmTelnet is there. Seems a little silly to get that entire CD when I just need one small program on it. But I really need a decent SSH client that supports ANSI colour properly, and allows me to work remotely with Emacs. I seem to remember having problems with the latter using the ssh port via an Amiga shell in the past.

I ended up doing the same, though I got, for quite an affordable price, a 3.0 CD and a separate 3.1 update. I don't have a CD drive in my Amiga, so I installed it in UAE in my PC and moved the necessary files manually (or at least tried to).

But I'm now having a problem with AmTelnet 2.4 where it closes down on its own within a minute when I start it, connect to my PC and leave it alone. It stays around longer if I do things with it, but eventually it dies. It just says Connection closed and quits.

Analyzing the network traffic reveals that its looks up update.vapor.com and sends it an udp packet to port 8888. In return it receives an error message over icmp about an unreachable port. I can't tell for sure if this coincides with the closing of the connection, but thats what it does afterwards.

The netconnect keyfile appears to work. I opted out from registration in the setup wizard - since its probably no longer possible and the instructions say its optional anyway - so I doubt its trying to call home for any kind of verification.

"update.vapor.com" suggests it may be trying to find out if there are newer versions available. Perhaps it is a feature that needs to be disabled somehow? It may also be that I've neglected to move something important when copying the files, or that my approach to installation is unworkable in the first place.

Is your AmTelnet working correctly? What version is it?

Good call. Either downgrading to 2.2 or upgrading to some of those later betas fixes my problem. I settled with 2.4.4 because for some reason zmodem transfers seem to be quite slow with the latest beta (the older ones are about thrice as fast).

Thanks for the nudge.

Does anyone have a spare keyfile for AmTelnet (v2.2+)? If not, I'm open for recommendations for some other telnet client which does not have a time limit

Also, anyone knows how to configure the ssh-server (linux) so the AmTelnet client doesn't yield the message?

SSH FATAL ERROR: Local: Bad packet length 1349676916
Connection closed.

I changed the config file so version 1 is also supported

Protocol 2,1

Still no change though.

Can anyone suggest and/or provide a good Amiga font to use with AmTelnet over SSH? For good I mean with all special chars needed to draw minimal lines, like on MidnightCommander for example.

I've only just spotted this thread! I got this going a while back - are you still stuck or did you get it going? There are a few other wee changes you'll need at the server end. Let me know if you need further info

@KONEY I'm using a font called 'Dina' - not 100% sure where I got it, but it's been fine as I've been navigating/updating an Ubuntu server.

Since the biggest problem with fonts was using Midnight commander at the moment I am executing it with the -a flag which forces lines with basic ASCII chars but I'd like to check if this 'DINA' font brings an improvement! Would you care to share it with me, please?

Found it! I grabbed it from Aminet: http://aminet.net/package/text/bfont/Dina

Thanks! most obvious place to look

Unfortunately also this font doesn't display graphic chars, have you been able to use it in graphic mode?

I've been trying to think what I've been running on the server, but to be honest it's mainly been updates or vim. Sorry, probably never even tried to use graphics chars!
