WinUAE 1.2 fails to start on Windows 95 (OSR2.5)

Hi,

I want to use WinUAE on a PC running Windows 95 OSR2.5. The installer seems to work fine, but starting the program gives a requester saying:
Error Starting Program
The WINUAE.EXE file is
linked to missing export KERNEL32.DLL:IsDebuggerPresent

Would this be easy to fix? If the problem is due to the startup code calling a function not present in Windows 95, maybe simply check the OS version before calling that function???

I am quite sure this is DirectX 8+ causing this message. Windows 98SE is lowest "supported" Windows version currently (and I really want to drop W98/ME support someday anyway..)

Not sure if this is any help but I have an older version of WinUAE for Win95 if you want it?

It's version 0.8.22R9

Let me know!

I'm not so sure. The error appears before any WinUAE code is run (I think). Also, I recently installed another program which gave the same error. That was an undelete-type utility, which would have been pretty unlikely to use DirectX

Maybe the linking to IsDebuggerPresent is automatically done by your compiler's startup code, regardless of whether that routine is actually used? If I knew anything about the Windows executable format, I might try patching it out and see what happens...

I forgot, WinUAE also requires Windows98SE because it uses multimonitor code that is not supported by older Windows versions.

And I am 99.9% sure that is not the only W98SE+ requirement...

I've got two systems running on my PC: Win98SE and Win2K.
A couple of years ago I decided to run WinUAE only on Win2K, don't know why exactly, but it had something to do with crashes and bugs.
WinUAE runs perfectly on my Win2K system for years.
Next I try to run WinUAE on my 386 Win95 PC and give some wonderful bug reports.

Cheers, Rick

Win95/98 are systems to emulate now, like the Amiga :P
