Using old PC PSU to run IDE cdrom drive on A1200

Hi all, I want to use an old PC PSU to power an IDE cdrom drive on my A1200.

In testing, without connection to the miggy, I cant get the psu to power up. This is I am sure is due to the fact that the ON signal would come from the Front Panel swith on the PC via the MOBO connector.

How can I bypass this and get the PSU to power on separate from the PC?

You need to connect a wire between PIN 14 (PS/on) and PIN 15 (Ground).
See ATX power Supply Connector

Connect the green wire to a black wire on the ATX connector. Then you can use the power switch on the ATX power supply to turn it ond and off.

If your PSU has no switch, you can connect a toggle switch between the green and black wires.

I guess you don't have an AT psu, those only have a hard power switch, but might not power up unless they have sufficient load on the +5 and +12 lines. (a hard drive, for example)

IDE 4-way splitter for Amiga 600/1200, allows to connect up to 4 IDE/ATAPI devices (IDE-max '97 driver software required)
(DCE)

€ 19,90 + shipping

I don't know shipping cost, but € 19,90 is surely lower than £16,99!!

€ is not equal to £

Comparing actual products like-for-like, 4-way buffered IDEFIX interface from Individual Computers (with an IDE cable):

IDE-fix Express Splitter WITHOUT Express adapter and WITHOUT software, incl. 2.5" IDE cable (10 cm)
(Individual Computers) 18.49

There is a another option without cable but not 19.90 EUROS

Hi hardsequencer,

There really should be enough room on the other side of the motherboard's IDE header to mount the IDE-FIX Express Adapter well out of the way of the hard drive.

There isn't really a best type to fit. Just about any 40-pin ATAPI device will work fine.
