Dune 2000 flickering
Is there a way to run the game without that annoying flickering on a modern system under W7 64-bit?
I've tried: - official 1.6 patch - running the game with multiple compatibility options - running the game with -f and -g command line options - turning multiple options on/off in my graphic card's panel - unofficial 1.7 patch - running the game using DXWnd |

Probably the best place to ask:

Tried most solutions from that forums, none worked for me.

how about making a WinXP in a VMware with 3D accelleration enabled.
VMware say that using WinXP in a VM on Win7 has a better performance than compatibility mode. Alot of 2000/XP games run badly on Win7, or not at all. |

I'd say that virtualization is the way to go nowadays, yeah. But only if your machine has some horsepower of course. Better have at least 2 cores so the virtualization can use one while the root operating system still has the other.

but turn off Aero. as that can improve performance if you feel lag. :-) |

Im sure I have installed this recently and use some patches to make it work fine on Win7.
I decided to randomly install Dune 2000 and Emperor Battle for Dune. |

Oh well, if there is no other way I'll try VMware...
@FOL: had the same need this weekend, also tried Dune Legacy which is a very cool port of Dune 2 with some nice game mechanic changes. |

Its amazing how people manage to do that. "Carp, my favorite game doesn't work or doesn't support widescreen modes. Let me wrap and fix the Direct3D DLL!"

Does it really fix the flickering?
AFAIK they've only rebuild the 16-bit game's original installer and packed the whole game into that big *.msi file, so I haven't tried that one, only their 1.7 patches that came afterwards. And these do nothing for me... EDIT: Downloaded their pack, installed a clean one, patched, and it's still flickering Last edited by Shoonay; 26 March 2012 at 11:48. |

No cake for me
Just tried VMware, under W98 SE the game doesn't even load with a message "graphics card not supported" or something like that, under WXP SP3 the game loads, intro movie shows, menu music loads... and nothing else, there is a black screen of nothingness. When clicking I can hear some buttons getting pressed, but that's it. Is it just me or doesn't it like the standard SVGA adaptor VMware uses? Damn this game is capricious... |

I do get the odd flicker at top of screen but only on menu's. Rest is perfect, but the mouse scroll speed is insane. |

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=608708#post608708 The way to solve it was to contact the author of the patch for Rage of Mages 2 and ask him nicely if he could do something similar for RoM1. His method involving disassembling some code, he was probably the best person suited for the task. So if I had issues with Dune 2000, I guess I would try and post about them on a forum where there are likely to be people who a) are fan of the game b) have the technical knowledge to investigate the issue. A forum where other technical issues have been dealt with before would probably be nice. Now where could you find that.... Seriously, I know EAB is the friendliest board on the whole planet, but don't be afraid to register and ask on another forum for help if it seems the best place for that. |

Hi-Res patch, relatively recent. Might help (no guarantee though):
