No it wasnt! The A500+ (especially with a sidecar HD) was HUGE. Too big to take round to a mates house on your bike in your rucksack!
What addons would you want? Erm... a HD? The internal 2.5" IDE made it insanely cheap to add a HD compared to an A590 or GVP. Coupled with PCMCIA slot for FastRAM and later ethernet made the A600 a much better choice. Absolutely no big loss. We once tried to make a list of Amiga games which needed the Keypad and were worth playing... there was no entries. All that said they should have implemented a hardware key-modifier, a key that when held down made other keys function as the keypad (like modern laptops). |

nice too some other fans around, nice stories. and i have to agree with the few who said about the number pad thing. It is a silly reason to give for not likeing a 600. yes the 1200 had the AGA and the better expansion possibilities but how many AGA exclusive games that were great were there? off the top of my head worms DC is the only one i remember being gutted about not being able to play. |

lol I think I'm the youngest Amiga owner here! ......
I got an Amiga 600 (my first Amiga) on my 12th Birthday! 6th December 1992 ! same pack as you! Wild Weird Wicked! My first day memories of my Amiga 600: 1) Silly Putty - "too bad just missed it! hahahahahah" 2) Push Over INTRO! 3) Shuffling through the pages to enter the pass code for the grand prix game! 4) just staring at it in amazement thinking how great and advanced this was compared to my Commodore 64 and a Atari 2600 sitting next to it! I could post a picture but it's embarrassing! Anyway good on ya mate, those FEELINGS & MEMORIES are priceless, best days of my life! Mo P.S. I just read Paul_s's post.... Mate, the Amiga 500 has NOTHING on the Amiga 600, at all, numeric keypad ?! ... NOTHING. |

Then me and my mate would proceed to walk half a mile to his home, carrying a nice white box with a massive pic and logo on side, lol. I would never do that now, UK is down the pan. I was 14, time flies. |

For Railroad Tycoon: Try to build tracks in the diagonals, this doesn't work with SHIFT+Arrows. I would assume there are more games like these. Anyway, a stock A1200 was faster (Ambermoon runs pretty smooth) and had more Ram. It was good to wait for these machine in 1992/1993. Last edited by Retro-Nerd; 24 January 2009 at 05:42. |

I think we all agree the A600 was a bit late, yes, but if they didn't release the crap A500+ and instead released the A600, people would think different.

My first miggy was an A600 around 1996..i had it for 2 years and sold it but regretted it after a couple of months so i went and bought an A500+, it felt big and clumsy after being so used to the size of the 600!
Sold that after about 6 months and bought the a1200...what a feeling that was! I too wish the 600 had AGA...what a fantastic machine that would be. |

If I remember, you could use a certain key combination to allow other keys to act as Numeric Keypad.
I remember this cause you needed it with shuttle. Man I spent along time playing that game, still never finished, got stuck on the hubble mission. You had to line up a triangle component with a triangle on the hubble, lol. |

Yes, cause you could'nt play shuttle otherwise (or could but it would be difficult).
Checking Shuttle Manual now, I remember I definately use combination keys to do the Numeric Keypad fucntions. As you used to rotate round the orbiter. Edit: Right it doesnt say, but im 99% sure. Last edited by FOL; 24 January 2009 at 12:30. |
