C=1084s - no color with Timex 2048 and ZX Spectrum+2
Hi,
did anybody try to connect Timex 2048 or ZX Spectrum 128+2 (grey) to Commodore 1084s monitor? I tried and the result is black & white picture on the screen. The connection was made with composite cable. Both computers and cables are OK - connected to TV they give color picture. All buttons on C=1084s rear panel are configured correctly. So, what can I do to have color display? P.S. I was using C=1084s with my A1200 (RGB cable) and it worked fine. |

As far as I know, no spectrum (including 128+2) has a composite video output. This would explain your problem.
Where are you plugging the composite cable into on the 128+2? You need buy/make an RGB cable for 128+2 to get colour |

ZX Spectrum+2 has a monitor output - it's a DIN socket on the rear panel. I have a special cable DIN-chinch which allows to connect Spectrum to a monitor or TV.
Timex 2048 has a composite output (chinch socket). I have composite chinch-chinch cable for it. Both computers were connected (using both cables) to TV and they gave colorful picture. |

You learn something new every day.
I did not think that monitor socket on a Spectrum128+2 had composite video output, but I was wrong it is on pin 1. Looks like the output from the Spectrum is not within specification for your monitor. Either the monitor is NTSC and the Spectrum is PAL or the other way around? Or perhaps it is just slightly out of specification, your TV does not mind but the monitor is fussy? You'll have to make an RGB cable. See Anemos's diagram. Ooooh. That makes more sense to me. No composite video on +2a or +3. That is what I thought. I too have a +3 (rev1)
I wonder if a regular +2 (not covered on that page) has composite. It must do! |
