Nice one musashi9, thank you very much

I'm at work at the moment but will try this out tonight in about 10 hours time

Did you manage to find which disk the third password check is on?

Hey guys,

Today I had the chance to try and finish Flashback since the girlfriend's away

Some good news and some very bad news...

The good news: The second password check on Level 5 after using the Tele Controller has been eradicated. Also on Level 7 after using the Tele Controller, the third password protect is cracked. Many thanks musashi9

Now for the bad news: Played all the way through Level 7 and came to the place where you drop the explosives and then hit the switch to lower the platform. I then start to run left and the screen goes totally black

Exited WinUAE, re-started Flashback, loaded Level 7 and again playing the up until this point. Same thing occurred

So close to finising and being 100% working... Not sure if this is happening as there is a fault with Disk 4 or if it's somehow because of the copy protection being removed

Well some good news guys, last night I found out something very interesting with regards to the SPS versions of Flashback... There are 2 English versions:

1) 1163 Flashback 4 English OCS EU Retail: v1.0 22.4.93
2) 1885 Flashback 4 English OCS EU Retail: Delphine Collection

The first one (1163) has code protection but the second one (1885) doesn't

Good news for people using WinUAE, just use the .ipf files for release 1885...

For real Amiga users, I tried running Xcopy Professional from WinUAE, leaving everything as default and then copying the .ipf files to blank .adf files. I then tested loading the game until the start of Level 1 (which is Disk 2) and all seemed fine

Guess I just need to play test these "new" .adf disks to make sure that they are working 100% (which they hopefully should be)...

Great news mate! I really hope you can achieve a 100% version of Flashback as adf files!

So do I my friend...

Well, it's not really for my sake (as I'll just use the .ipf files within WinUAE) but this would be cool for real Amiga owners. Just need to test now when I get the chance

Actually, when I get home tonight I can upload these .adf files to The Zone! if anybody else feels like testing these

... getting a bit bored with playing Flashback now

Ok guy, just uploaded a file called Flashback [adf from ipf].zip to The Zone!

Brief initial test looks good, needs to be play tested though

There's an old saying "If you want something done, then do it yourself"...

...so, I've tested the version of Flashback .adf files that I created from the .ipf files:

1885 Flashback 4 English OCS EU Retail: Delphine Collection

After roughly 4.5 hours of play testing, I'm very happy to report that this version has no protection what-so-ever and works 100% (on Easy level anyway)

Things to note (that are not important):

... I guess that U.S. Gold / Dephine Software re-arranged file location on this Delphine Collection. Levels 6 + 7 are disk 4 but:

a) On Level 6, after picking up the Diary, you are asked for disk 3 then disk 4 again. On "protected" version you are not...
b) On Level 7, after taking the final lift into the escape spaceship, your are asked for disk 3, then disk 4, then disk 1. Usually on "protected" version you are only asked for disk 1 then 4 again...

Phew, I'm not playing Flashback again for another 10 years

Go get the fully 100% tested "English" version of Flashback from The Zone! while it still has roughly 4 days to go...

[idoru], Adderly, please take note and mark this with a [!] flag for Tosecs

Sure? How about the 3DO, CDI, Atari Jaguar, Sega CD, SNES, Genesis, PC or FM-Towns Version?

ROFL

Already tested the SNES version through my SNES DVD... Work perfectly 100%, now you see why I'm sick of Flashback. Probably played it all the way through 6 times in the past 2 months

The only other version I will test is the FM Towns version (this is because it's an improvement on any other version with synthisized sound and extra footage in the cutscenes)

Last, very important comment relating to Flashback...

The upmost thanks must be given to the following people for this 100% working "English" version (especially from you die hard only Amiga users out there who say WinUAE isn't the business) as it would not have been possible otherwise:

... The SPS Team for imaging up / providing the 1885 Flashback 4 English OCS EU Retail: Delphine Collection .ipf files.
... Toni Wilen (no need to explain, you all know why).

Without WinUAE and the SPS Team, it would not have been possible to create this .adf version for "real" Amiga owners to play with...

Much, and I repeat, much respect is due to both parties

Case closed...

Ooops, not the last word...

Guess I should really post something in Adderly's thread http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=23024 about CRC32's for the working Flashback 100% working "English" version

Long time ago, I was going to use the English PC text dialog on the Interpol version as I could never get my hands on the elusive non-xlated English Amiga version (which I did see it on a BBS list.) I'm glad that DamienD took his time to go thru all the different version to sort the mess out as it'll save me time later. I'll revisit this game later as my hands are full. I'll try to determine the cause of the musashi9 black screen issue later; maybe use 1163 Disk 4 as well in case there are some other corrupt files.
