aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh Settlers black screen.
right here we go,
this is my system, amiga 1200, os3.5, 3.1 roms, 4 x ide adaptor, dvd cdrw, 8 gig cf card hdd, 19"lcd pc monitor, indivision aga, this is a problem that i have been having for about a month now, i install SETTLERS into my games dir, (no problem). double click the icon to run the game (black screen) that is all, i get no sound no picture. there is also another game that i have this problem with, and that is GODS, same thing, install the game, double click on the icon, and black screan. all other games that i have installed work with no problems, including some whd load games, this is what i have done to try and fix the problem. 1, new mother board (not through choice) old board went bang. 2, new blizzard accelerator 030 3, new flopy drive (heads cleaned) 4, new 32 meg ram, 5, new ide lead to 4 x ide adaptor 6, new cf card and adaptor hdd. 7, new ide lead to dvd cdrw. has anyone got any idias on this problem an how to get the game working. I'm using a cracked version to save me messing about with the manual codes, but have you tried running the WHDLoad version of the game? Its a pretty hardware friendly kind of game I think, so it really ought to work. Have you checked the main exe hasn't become corrupted? |

Not enough Chipmem? Or broken disk images maybe? Did you try the pre-installed version from whdownload.com yet?

If you are sure that the software is okay (archive and e-mail it to somebody to check) and you've tried disabling any sytem patches you have running, maybe you can remove some hardware (a bit at a time) to find out where the problem lies? I appreciate this may not be a realistic option. But if there's a way you can plug your 1200 into a telly, without the indivision for example? |

right, ive got it sorted.
it seems that the problem lies with whdload ver 16.8. i have downloaded and installed ver 16.9. and all is well and working great, all this time i have been blaming the poor 1200, and it turns out to be the software, but how this would affect the game that boots from flopy i dont know, as the hard drive has not booted the software ????? BUT all is good as it is working, and thanks to you all for your replys. |

right here we go again, i thought i had this sorted, seems i dont.
the game works great untill i go to save it first the keyboard dont work in the new name tab, (works ok for other games) when i click save, the screen gose black and starts to flash so i can see the settlers screen under the black screen, i have tried 3 different versions of the game, 2 orrigonal games 1 from disk and one someone sent me in a zip file, the other was a whdload version. all the games do the same, could this be something to do with the whdload that i have installed. |

if i understand it correctly, that's normal whdload behaviour
it has to "go back" to the os to save the file give it time, it must stablize eventually |

i have been trying to help leyton solve this for a few weeks now?
he has tried the whdload pre-installed game, and the genuine settlers floppy disks, with exactly the same problem. i have done adf`s of my working settlers floppy`s, and supplied him with copy disks of my genuine settlers disks, all working and tested on my tower, and on a std desktop with 2.5"hd plus bl030 mk4, and with my bppc 603e 060 , i have also made a cd of my working game, but its still the same problem? he has taken off his indivision and used an amiga rgb scart lead to the monitor, with the same result, ie, settlers loads fine, and plays ,to the point where you save the game, then the screen goes black with the image of settlers underneath it, plus the keyboard wont work when typing in the new games save name , all his other games work ok, except settlers, we got gods to install and work only after using whdload ver 16.5 , ver 16.8 / 9 would crash gods ?? yet it works ok on my bppc with ver 16.8/9?? even formating and changing the partions file system from sfs to ffs doesnt cure it, i have now exhausted my knowledge , on what is causing this problem Last edited by twizzle; 27 May 2009 at 22:17. |

Is this an original or a cracked version? If it's a crack it's most likely caused by a missed checksum check!

Hello.
I am trying to install The Settlers with WHDLOAD. I also get a black screen on startup, however I can hear the sound playing. If I click the mouse, the screen turns green and then crashes back to Workbench with an "Access Fault" error. Using WHDLOAD v17.1. Can anyone help? Thanks. |
