Doom on 4 MB
Hi, I would like to see how Doom behaves on a WinUAE AGA 68EC020 4 MB system. Is possible to run it on a 4 MB system, like says the documentation of ADoom?
I tried but I could not run it. Doesnt matters if it runs very jerk. I need to know how you could, please! |

Ah, DoomAttack!
I tried it and works beautifully. Unfortunately the author of DoomAttack stopped from updating it... Excuse to ask, you already had an Amiga 1200 14 MHz? You can say to me if the feel of WinUAE cycle exact is like of an real Amiga? I ask this because DoomAttack runs too fast in WinUAE for a small 14 MHz emulated CPU. |

Thanks johnim, I expected this, because I run WinUAE cycle exact 14 MHz and WhichAmiga reports 56 MHz... I was surprised by the very different speed.

The source code for DoomAttack was recently recovered by Mick, and uploaded to Aminet by NovaCoder so anyone is free to continue development of it now.
I have recently been running benchmark tests on my Amigas using DOOM and recording the results. One of my test systems is an A1200 with a 4/8MB RAM card, no extra CPU. Another test system also only has a EC020 and 8MB FastRAM, my CD32 with SX32 expansion, but it is gifted with an Akiko chip as well. Here are the results, using the Doom Benchmark rules: DoomAttack Amiga A1200 020/14Mhz 8Mb (Optimised 020 C2P) - 22976 realtics (3.3 fps) Amiga A1200 020/14Mhz 8Mb (Blitter 020 C2P) - 20660 realtics (3.6 fps) Amiga CD32 68020/14Mhz 8Mb (Optimised 020 C2P) - 18971 realtics (3.9 fps) Amiga CD32 68020/14Mhz 8Mb (Akiko Optimised C2P) - 12872 realtics (5.8 fps) Amiga A1200 030/28Mhz 64Mb (Optimised 020 C2P) - 17732 realtics (4.2 fps) Amiga A1200 030/28Mhz 64Mb (Blitter 020 C2P) - 12727 realtics (5.8 fps) Amiga A1200 030/50Mhz 128Mb (Optimised 020 C2P) - 8696 realtics (8.6 fps) Amiga A1200 030/50Mhz 128Mb (Blitter 020 C2P) - 8296 realtics (9.0 fps) Amiga A1200 030/56Mhz 64Mb (Optimised 020 C2P) - 6065 realtics (12.3 fps) Amiga A1200 030/56Mhz 64Mb (Blitter 020 C2P) - 5607 realtics (13.3 fps) ADoom Amiga A1200 020/14Mhz 8Mb (AGA 68020 C2P) - 22984 realtics (3.2 fps) Amiga A600 030/30Mhz 64Mb (EHB 68030 C2P) - 17886 realtics (4.2 fps) Amiga CD32 68020/14Mhz 8Mb (AGA 68020 C2P) - 16294 realtics (4.6 fps) Amiga A1200 030/28Mhz 64Mb (AGA 68030 C2P) - 14430 realtics (5.2 fps) Amiga A1200 030/50Mhz 128Mb (AGA 68030 C2P) - 9133 realtics (8.2 fps) Amiga A1200 030/56Mhz 64Mb (AGA 68030 C2P) - 6217 realtics (12.0 fps) Remember, these results are running the game in High Detail mode, in almost full-screen. The game will run faster in Low Detail mode in a smaller sized screen of course. If anyone would like to try DoomAttack on their Amiga, I have bundled it with the better Midi instruments file, shareware Doom wad, and configured it for the Doom benchmark test with the best settings, ready to try. The only exception is I have left music turned on, which makes a considerable performance hit so I turn it off during benchmark tests, since a PC wouldn't be using extra CPU to emulate Midi either so it's not fair on the Amiga to leave it on when testing the speed of the game engine. Anyway, here it is: Amiga Doom (DoomAttack) Last edited by Cammy; 21 November 2011 at 07:58. Reason: Added more speed text results |

Thanks Cammy! You comes always with some news, some gifts for the Amiga/WinUAE community!
Only looking at these numbers I guess WinUAE cycle exact runs much faster than an A1200. For a historical importance, WinUAE would do nice if it could match the A1200 speed. I did a quick test with AIBB and SysInfo and it is circa 2 - 2.5 % dhrystones faster on my machine. Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 29 October 2011 at 04:56. |

No, I dont have a FTP client... But if you could recommend one for me, I would be glad. I know the basic usage of such apps. Or, if the file could be acessible via the browser interface of the file server, I could just access by that.
Oh, thanks for the reply! |

But wouldn't accessing the EAB File Server by the browser interface give you the same problem you experienced earlier? Anyhow, I'll upload it to the EAB File Server for you shortly. Edit: Hey, you're right. The archive is corrupt! It seems to be truncated to 4,229,355 bytes. Last edited by prowler; 31 October 2011 at 01:20. |

I'm really sorry guys, I checked the FTP and it seems the file didn't finish uploading. I'm re-uploading it now so hopefully by the time you read this post the link will be fine and you can download it again.
I'm really sorry for posting a bad link. |

No problem, Cammy. Thanks for re-uploading.
Should be okay for you too now, Leandro. |

Doomattack can also use amiga mod music which might allow setups that struggle with software midi to have music in the game.

Hey guys, not really important but I updated my post above with more speed test results, this time from the mighty ACA1230/56, the fastest 030 in the galaxy. It runs Doom much smoother than any other Amiga I have used, just look how much better the results are compared to the 50Mhz 030.
