Playing classic amiga games on a CD32

Hi,

Are there any tools for the cd32 that will boot adf files? I'm thinking of buying one from ebay and burning a compilation with a menu of my old favourite a500 games... if that's at all possible that is.

You cant run ADFs directly - You can play HD installed games.
Theres already a few compilations your find these on torrent sites
Check out AMIGA CD32 Games Compilation Toolkit you can find the software for this on the EAB file server.

Great, i'll take a look at that. Im guessing you don't actually need a hard drive in your cd32 to install it the games? Do they get installed onto the cd?

How do I go about getting access to the file server?

Thanks for the links,

There are a lot of decent games on that page Shame they are not all available on one cd though.

I've been outbid on the cd32 and was going to leave it but reading those pages as got me interested again!

They are. Google for CD32 888 and 444 and you'll see some compilation discs with many games per disc.

The only problem i see is creating save games on a CD32. There are many games on these A500 compilation CD's but i don't think you can actually save your progress unless you get a floppy drive expansion?

I don't think the kinds of games which are on these discs have a save feature?

If you have a title you need to run from CD32 which requires a save, I would imagine you could try to persuade the slave author to add NVRAM saving to your favourite slave if you needed it?

Perhaps WEPL can explain where things are with WHDload & CD32 NVRAM?

I am getting my first CD32 soon, I understand that there is this NVRAM, but how many save games can you fit on it in practice?

I remember the 3D0 had something like 32kb and only about 2/3 game saves could fit on it.

Depends on the save game obviously. The NVRAM is only 1024 BYTES so it is very very small.

AFAIK few (no?) WHDload slaves support high-scores or saves to NVRAM.

StingRay did a few (non WHDload?) CD32 ports with NVRAM saves (via nonvolatile.library ?) and button re-mapping.

1kb? wow! There will not be a lot being saved on that! I can now understand why you can buy CD32 floppy drives!

You couldn't really back in the old days. You had the insanely expensive SX1, SX32 and SX32 pro all beyond most mortal's pocket money.

These now cheap CD32fWSI devices being sold today by Analogic were not on sale back then. Tens if not hundreds of them seemed to have lived in a cupboard for 14 years

Shame no-one has made a cheap 4Mbyte RAM upgrade for them to replace the clock module. It would be very cheap and very easy.
