Searching Portuguese Amiga owners

I'm starting this thread to know where are the Portuguese Amiga enthusiasts.

Are you a EAB user from Portugal? Where do you live? Let's us know.

The objective is to seek Portuguese Amiga owners, so that in the future we can meet and share our experiences and love for anything Amiga.

For many years I've been in the dark and knew no one with an Amiga, till I met with AlfaRomeo this week and we passed a great afternoon. So why don't gather more users, make more friends, have more AMIGA?

So, don't be shy and have your say.

Saudações AMIGAveis,

X-Pect

Yes i know of another amiga fan (and user, still as a A1200 and an A600 perfectly working and updated) from Lisbon, but due to lack of time he only wants to be in one amiga site witch he is active supporter (ClassicAmiga), but he give me permition to add it to the list here, so Tiago from Lisbon is also an Amiga user from Portugal!! Witch makes 4 of us!! (damn, back in the 90's we were like flyes....).

Yes indeed JLPedro. In my minuscule town we here like 30 or something. And I was the proud one to start it all here. Just watching their faces drooling in amazement when they first saw my A500, was priceless.

Those were the times indeed.

AlfaRomeo:

A very nice collection indeed!! (green with envy...) And the modded A1200, just amazing! I tried to put an internal Slim CD-RW (buyed the JAE adapter) but when testing the cdrom, it got toasted (as not very young...), so i just use the 3com ethernet pcmcia to get what i need to the Amiga.

I'm also Portuguese, of the "old guard" Amigans (possibly one of the first Amigans in Portugal). I still remember when the A500 was advertised on the back of Disney comics!

I've had an A500, an A1200, and then my dream of the era, a souped-up A4000 (a towerized A4000D). My friends all left the Amiga sooner than I did; I bought a Macintosh laptop for University when my Amiga was getting old and there was no Java in sight (Java is my "bread and butter" today).

I still have the Amiga 4000, but it doesn't work anymore (the battery leaked). I plan to revive it (or buy another A4000) for fun and education purposes, but I just don't have the time or money right now. There is a thread here at EAB about this.

The Amiga was very popular in Portugal, I remember running around the BBSs with my modem long before anyone heard about the Internet! Some of us even got busted by the cops because we had access to really powerful data (I was too affraid to get into trouble). A few weeks ago we had a television documentary about these guys entitled "The Good Pirates". We could clearly see the Amigas (A1200) in the pictures the Police took when arresting the boys. Those were the times....

Now the plan is to get my hands on a new (SAM440ep?) and old (my A4000) Amiga machine for the education project. If my projects give good results, I might even start developing for the AmigaOS 4.1 (maybe porting the Java VM?).

I really think there is NO way the Amiga will ever be gone!

Flink,

Nice to hear from you!

My history with Amiga is much like yours: Early adopter, (1988) then my main computer for 11 straight years.

Everyone I knew ditched the Amiga in the 90's soon after Commodore died, to a level that I felt I was in no man's land. Till discovering EAB and meeting with AlfaRomeo, 14 years have passed since I saw live an A1200, from my own A1200.

Did you actually run from the Police? I wasn't aware the we were such prolific hackers in the times, especially Amiga dudes!

Well, we're starting to pile up guys.

Cheers,

X-Pect

@Flink,

Wellcome

nice to have one more tuga in the neighborhood

It´s true that at the early 90´s were hackers here in Portugal that used Amigas at the time and I even edited a tv story about some of that guys because they were caught by the cops.
They ordered many things abroad with fake credit cards they used to make with a stolen algorithm
and pay telephone bills, etc introducing false information in the computers of corresponding companies here in Portugal.
They were not arrested because bank managers were afraid that people would know and would not use credit cards any more. So that guys had to be present at police station 1 time per week.
Later I was at home of one of that guys and at that time he earn money at home trading shares of US companies with a computer and also sell me 2 CD´s full of pirated software that I still have.
Those were the times
