Worst Amiga Ports

I was looking through some Amiga videos on youtube and found a couple of games which were so bad that I had to share them.

Castlevania:

I've always enjoyed the Castlevania games, I was aware there was a C64 version of the first game but I had no idea there was also an Amiga version. This has to be the jerkiest, most unplayable heap of crap ever released on the Amiga computer. I have no idea how they thought it was suitable to release it in this condition.

Super C:

Brilliant arcade game that the Amiga could have quite easily done perfectly. Instead we were provided with this rubbish.

Pac-land, a game could have been converted easily.. inexplicably turned in a jerky and uncontrollable crap.

Awkward controls, laughable scrolling. Nearly unplayable.

The C64 version is a true classic. The Amiga version almost a new game, and pretty boring.

Outrun blows chunks on Amiga. Such a disappointment.

Perhaps I never gave the game a real chance but I thought Strider was horrendous at the time coming from playing my mate's Megadrive version. Maybe I'll give it another try some time

Microprose Soccer on C64: awesone. On Amiga: pretty disappointing, no smooth scrolling and controls...

I must disagree about Bomb Jack, the Amiga version is my favourite.

Some poorly converted (but still fairly playable) coin-ops that spring to mind are Alien Syndrome, Rolling Thunder and Xain d'Sleena.

I agree with codetapper, Bomb Jack on Amiga is awfull.
The Amstrad CPC version is however excellent .

I don't know if i am the only one with this opinion, but i found Saint dragon completely horrible. Horrible framerate with constant slowdows. The coin-up version turns at a constant 60fps, i gave this one a change again by transfering it a few days ago. I erased the disks after 5 minutes lol. Awfull really.

Flying shark is one of the worst port too, the coin-op is simply excellent (allthough too difficult in my opinion).

Ghouls 'n Ghosts

The Megadrive version was fantastic, the Amiga version sucked. Such a pity as the Amiga certain was capable of doing a near perfect conversion.

I have to say though, Tim Follin's soundtrack in Ghouls 'n Ghosts is one of the best I've heard on the Amiga.

You can avoid those slowdowns by loading the game in NTSC mode. Also worked with R-Type 2, in NTSC you got perfect constant framerate.

Similar thing happens with SlySpy. Fantastic soundtrack from Tim & Geoff Follin,.. but game is dire.

Really ??? How can a game would run at 10 fps more if it even doesn't manage to display 50 fps ??? You must be confused i think. Also, the real time disk accesses are partially responsable of the slowdows, like in ninja warriors and swiv, allthough these last two are great games. I will try to see the differences. For sure all will run faster, even the music/sounds, but it is impossible that the frame rate should become perfect.

In R-Type 2 surely was perfect.

In St Dragon not so perfect but much better than PAL. Also be sure to hard-reset the machine, because sometimes it didnt worked.

Tell me when you test it, but I assure you it worked in my A500 at 90es.

Cool Spot? The backgrounds just look awful in comparison with the console versions of the game...

Final Fight immediately springs to mind. So does Street Fighter 2. Got to agree with Shinobi as well.

Castlevania, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Outrun, Shinobi and SF2 are definitely the worst. Very bad are also:

Dynasty Wars
Space Quest IV and Space Quest I Enhanced
Strider

Victory Road is pretty awful.

And although not strictly a conversion, Belial is a blantant ripoff of Ghosts'n'Goblins, without any of the good bits.

Power drift and Altered beast are just pain on Amiga. The first one is excellent on Arcade and C64, the second one is at least average on arcade. On C64 is nothing special, still far better than on Amiga, though.

Maybe I was a bit harsh but I never liked the port of bubble bobble as I was such a fan of the arcade game. In its own right though it was a nice game.

I agree with the above about shinobi been horrid.
