Looking for CD filesystem.

Hi,

I'm looking for a good CD filesystem. So far I've tried CacheCDFS, which is nice, but is part of IDEFix and pops up a nag requestor, and I've tried AmiCDFS, which doesn't support Joliet filenames

I've heard good things about AsimCDFS. Is it good? And where can I get it?

Any help is appreciated

If you mean the Power Computing key, then alas, I've already tried it under the assumption that it's a legal key, but it isn't and it doesn't work

It does work. You have to type "POWER COMPUTING" in capitals.

Really? Perhaps I just botched it up

The question that remains is: Is it legal? IdeFix, or IdeMax as it's called today, is still being sold, and I don't want to use a registered version without paying for it if this isn't legal.

It's not legal.

There is a legal key for IDEfix in the Amiga Forever package, if you own that. See Work:Applications/IDEfix/Documentation after AF has been installed.

The authors of IDEFix97, IDE-Max '97 (whatever you call it) were Elaborate Bytes and they appear to have left the scene many years ago.

Unlikely they receive money for their work anymore, and they certainly do not re-invest the proceeds in Amiga development.

You have to ask yourself when you buy a copy (from whoever), is the money actually going to the copyright holder? Will my money be re-invested in the Amiga community? Is this just someone who feels empowered enough to sell pirate copies trying to make a quick buck?

I've bought software (not necessarily IDEFix) over the last 10 years from big names such as SoftHut & Computer City and Power Computing which all turned out to be counterfeit.

Out of curiosity anyone know who owns the copyrights / publication rights to IDEMax?

Vesalia stopped selling it recently.

mcb must know, given that the Registered version is included in Amiga Forever.
If Cloanto doesn't own the Copyright, then they must have had to obtain a licence to distribute it from the Copyright holder.

AmigaForever dates back well over a decade, they could have acquired a license before Elaborate Bytes stopped

I'm guessing Oliver Kastl has the only rights over it as he wrote it.
As there's no support or development for IDEfix97, the keys should be open to the public.

Depends if he sold them off. He certainly wrote that he was powering off his Amiga for the very last time in December 2000.

That's not how things work. I believe that legally the keys remain copyrighted and licensed for 50 years or more.

If you meant "it would be nice to see if we can obtain a free and open public key license", I would agree. But I doubt the Author has either the capability or time to make one.

Thats not what i meant, essentaily it's a piece of software developed on what they see as a dead platform now...they have no inclination to develop it further or indeed make it commercially avaliable, so why should amiga users do their best to try to find some way of obtaining a legal key?
Oliver Kastl or whoever owns the rights to the said software should realease a public key.
