IDE CF Compact Flash Adapter Power Plug

Hi All,

I have a 40 pin IDE CF Adapter on my A4000. The adapter has a floppy power connector in it.

I am currently NOT using the power connector and everything seems to be working fine. I know that the 44 pin IDE on the A1200 does not need power as that IDE port is self powered.

Is it recommended that I attach this power connector on my A4000?

Regards...ed

Certainly it is. It wouldn't exist if it was not needed.

It's there because the adapter is made for PC, and drives on 40-pin IDE require a separate power supply. Don't ask me how it can work without it, maybe it uses the LED driver output as Vcc!!

I have a similar CF adapter for my A1200, and the 2.5" (44-pin) cable-to-3.5" has only 40 pins connected, so I'm supplying it power to its power connector separately.

@crazyegg

I have one of these mounted on a backplane for my 4000D and I made up a lead to take the power from a spare 3.5" drive connector.

Whatever is supplying power to the adapter in its present configuration, it will be far better to remove the load from it by using the separate power connection.

That's a very convenient solution to the problem!
