New WHDLoad Download Tool

Hi, just wondering if you think single click option might be a good idea? What I mean by that is if there is a updated game, it could download the new version and delete the old one with a single click. instead of having to click download then clean.

Like the Download option in v0.7a it could show a windows first saying:

deleting game-x_v1.lha
downloading game-x_v1.1.lha

What do you think?

It should be possible. I could add a tick box to let the user decide.

Version 0.8a is available

There's two versions in this release. A stable release based on the v0.7a FTP code and an unstable version based on the v0.6a FTPEx library download code that crashes the GUI sometimes. The reason is, there were still a few users who had connection issues with the new code. Having both versions available, should hopefully mean that everyone can use the tool.

Only one major addition. There is now a 'Make Folder' button which is there to create new folders out of your existing downloads. For instance, if you have a full set but only want to copy ECS/OCS games to an A500/600/2000/3000, just untick AGA and CD32 in the filter, press the 'Make Folder' button, select a new folder, decide whether to keep the folder structure and press go.

Fixes / Updates

• Fixed old dat files not being deleted in Scan FTP procedure.
• Cleaned up unneeded variables and lists from the FTP download procedures.
• Fixed console actions on Download FTP procedure.
• Tweaked FTP procedures to use real FTP variables rather than 1 & 0.
• Minor speed up when processing strings.
• Added button that makes a new folder of archives based on your filter selections.
• Make Folder opens the output folder window when complete.

Just tried it on my system and it was fine. Try removing the program from your firewall exceptions and letting it through again. Make sure the exception is set to public.

This looks like a fantastic tool.

I tried running it many times over the last 48 hours and was unable to get it to do anything after clicking the Load Data button. It seems to attempt to connect to the FTP for a few seconds before it disconnects.

I’m not a windows user, but I think I’ve turned off the windows defender firewall.

Has anyone got any pointers?

I’m using windows 11 arm

Some ISPs block the inbound connection on the stable version. The unstable version uses a different connection type that is normally allowed. There is still a small percentage of users who can't connect on either version and I'm working on a solution for them... hopefully.

Thanks Mrv2k, it looks the business anyways!

You’ve given me a lead with ISP blocking, I’ll try VPN and tethering and see if that helps. I did try both current versions as well as a few older versions with the same results.

Let me know if I can be helpful any way. I’ll update if it turns out to be ISP related.

isnt this because grandis.nu has a download limit for fair usage?, when i once tried using it, it would download a chunk of files then just stop as the connection was refused when some limit was hit, and my ftp clients didnt play well with resuming where it left off so i just stopped using the site.

You can verify if you've been hit with the "Downloaded too much with the anonymous FTP account" by going to https://grandis.nu


If you can reach that from a normal browser, you are not temporarily blocked. If you can log in to the FTP normally, you are also fine.


Most people should not ever see this limit. It is strictly in place to discourage anonymous users from staying on for days on end, downloading which is best described by the technical term; "a lotta giggas". You should definitely not see it, even if you download the entire WHDload collection.
If you do get hit with it, its like a 10 minute block the first time. If you get hit again, its longer, plus how much total you've downloaded and a few other calculations I won't go into =)

I've tried the tool with VPN, I keep getting a FTP connection closed after pressing the load data button.

On your firewall settings do you have the program permissions set up as a private connection? I had problems with private connections and had to set it to public.

I have made an exception in the fire wall for the whdload tool, but I will check what you suggested, thanks.I don't know if its because I haven't actually posted over 50 posts, so i can not gain access to the server.Thanks anyway .

That limit is only to be able to create an account to be able to upload. This tool works fine with the anonymous "ftp" user account.

Oh, I didn't know that, I thought you had to posts 50 posts to join the server to download.
I will give it another try, so I still keep the same login details, FTP, amiga ,thanks again, I will try again later.
I tried using filezilla to download from the server, but it wouldn't do anything.

The anonymous "ftp" account only allows one connection per IP and filezilla have a nasty habit of wanting to use 2 connections so that you can keep browsing while downloading. You have to tell filezilla to only use 1 connection. There is a section on this in the first post here: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=43633


You can absolutely use filezilla with the anonymous account =)
