The very best two-player game I've ever seen wasn't running on the Amiga : it was a C64 game called "The Goonies" (based on the famous movie) ; players really had to team up and be smart in order to get through the few levels it featured...
"Head Over Heels" could not be considered an actual two-player game, even though it featured two characters : only one would be "active" at any given moment. Great game as well, though... sh |

Where to begin? Here's a few though (competitive games first) and some of these are more than two players:
SWOS, Speedball 2, Lamborghini American Challenge, Shadow Fighter, Super Skidmarks, Dynablaster, Arcade Pool, Base Jumpers, Projectyle, Zany Golf, Space Crusade (which can be both competitive and co-operative). Here's some good co-operative ones: Chaos Engine, Alien Breed, Rodland, Parasol Stars, Pang, Donk, Apidya. There's quite a lot of good PD games that are multiplayer too. |

Oh, c'mon, somebody MUST vote for Z-Out. It's simply the best shoot em up and the 2-player mode is the best. And really challenging, too.

There were so so many absolute classics, man the memories! Of them all some have been mentioned, but I just have to mention two games that I haven't seen people bring up (ok ok so I started to skim *SOME* of the replies)
Monkey Island 1+2! Oh wow, these games were fantastic, these games shaped my character I am sure. Liberation: Captive 2. Ok, now this might be controversial, I have seen people tear this one up. Myself and my cousins used to play this game day in day out, for hours and hours, until my old A600HD would conk out from the heat of being on the carpet. It was so good to us, we'd just boot her right back up and start again, we never even did the missions, we just went about being 4 droids in a huge world. The single player ancestor of many an MMO! :P (grandiose claims are to be expected off a nostalgia trip like this!) My dad had brought it up to my granparents' one day we were staying up there, and he knew nothing about such things, but managed to pick out this utter gem. Although admittedly the Amiga had many of these, I shall have to stop and not go on to name any more, as I will be here typing for a week! Although one other non mainstream title, so it seems, was Walker, that is still great arcade fun, all those little men... stompy stompy! Dad then made the HUGE mistake of chucking my A600HD AND A1200 when I got a PC, OMG was I NOT impressed! /gush over |
