Shouldn't the content of a CD-ROM be read-only?

I don't know how to break this down to you, but the emulator doesn't seem to be saving a log file at all. I already searched the whole hard drive twice, (including hidden folders) with no results whatsoever for fs-uae.log. Also went through the various application data folders manually: I managed to find the FS-UAE folder but there's nothing inside of it. I'm not sure if this is related due to different directories in winxp, but the fact is that I can't find the log file at all.

Stupid me ...

because the make run was so smooth, I never considered installing...

Sounds strange. If you contact me on irc.abime.net (nick: FrodeSolheim), I can connect to you via TeamViewer and possibly see what the problem is (run a debug version, if necessary).

Working great again here. Had some fun trying to get COMA running, but that was with every version!

Is there an option for on-screen LEDs at all? Can't see it in the config or readme...

It'd be great to have a really simple ADF selector, too...

No, there isn't. What kind of LED's are you thinking about? The ones on the actual Amigas, or UAE-style floppy/CD-ROM/HD indicators? Anyway, wouldn't be that hard to implemented, but would have to decide where they would fit (when the Amiga display stretches the entire screen) -Several possibilies: transparent overlays, a status bar, ...

I'll put a simple ADF selector on the wishlist.

are you implementing JIT from WinUAE, FrodeSolheim? (in 64bit systems, too, please )
I know it would break compatibility for a lot of games, so it could be considered accuracy level -3 or something like that

thanks!

I'm thinking about the status bar style thing in WinUAE, so you can see the state of things at a glance.

I'm not doing anything about it now, but it is a possibility for later, it's certainly on the idea-list. Not relevant for games, though. But 64-bit support is probably *a lot* of work, and I'm neither a JIT export, nor an Amiga-internals-expert, so it is unlikely I'll be fixing this.

I'll put it on the wishlist. It's not a big job, not not something really use either, but could be useful for debugging / testing, so perhaps a toggle-able statusbar would make sense.

Regarding JIT, Picasso96, and other such features, I think it is important for this project to have a focus. Trying to do everything at once can probably kill projects in severe cases.

Stuff I would like to do (not in any particular order, and not an inclusive list either):
  • Support changing input devices from menu (swap between mouse and joystick, etc)
  • More sanity checks on startup, warn user through GUI (missing kickstart, floppies not found, etc) -but reduces the amount of support and increases usability
  • On-screen keyboard, controllable with gamepad
  • Control Amiga mouse with gamepad
  • Fully configurable input event mapping (map any key/button to any amiga input event).
  • Support for Amiga parallell port joysticks
  • Performance improvements (on certain hardware)
  • Support for automatically loading a save state on startup
  • Further development of net play? (depends a bit on response, and how much I use it myself)
  • Support 100Hz/120Hz displays (if need arises).
  • Fix many smaller issues, fix bugs, make it better
  • Work more on FS Game Center (it already works very well, and integrates nicely with FS-UAE) -prepare it for a public release, to get an all-in-one solution for browsing and playing Amiga games through the "same" interface (FS Game Center and FS-UAE shares input method and design elements).
  • Clean up the code a bit
  • Clean up the input system, reduce input lag in net play
  • Create some patches to make it easier to share code with WinUAE (gcc compilation fixes, etc), and ask Toni Wilen nicely if he would be willing to merge them.
  • Test FS-UAE on more GPUs / OpenGL drivers, improve compatibility.

Even more stuff I could do:
  • Built-in on-screen game manual reader
  • Built-in on-screen copy protection wheel display
  • Perhaps an external tool with GUI to create controller configurations (for "unknown" gamepads etc)

Nice-to-have features (which has been requested), but not relevant for gaming:
  • Piccasso96 support
  • JIT compiler for x86
  • bsdsocket.library emulation on all platforms
  • Direct access to native CD-ROMs
  • JIT compiler for x86_64 (difficult, time-consuming, very unlikely)

So while I could in theory train myself as a JIT expert, I think the time can be better spent on other things -And I think a continued focus on games and improved usability and performance is right at this time.

I still very much welcome input, suggestions and comments -but thought it would be helpful to let you know what kind of tasks I will have to prioritize between.

Great work FrodeSolheim, this emu work very well on linux.

A small request:
A option to select the loading speed of the floppy disk.

Ps. In a couple of hours i have wrote this "incomplete" linux frontend for your emu (inspired to E-UAE gui).
For those who want to try it, it is written in gambas3 so you have to install dependencies.

G-FS-UAE-0.0.10.tar.gz

Sorry for bad english.

For management joypad input, you can use the excellent Mednafen source code.

It 's based on sdl / opengl should not be difficult to implement it on your emulator.

Mednafen

I like the idea of using amiga joystick directly, currently playing with wii classic controller, it would be awesome to haul out the Battlestation II and hook it up to the mac mini on the 50" plasma.

Very impressed with FS-UAE FrodeSolheim, many thanks!

I'm having an issue with version 0.9.10 under OS X 10.7.3. I have a configuration with model = A1200, and 3 hard drives mounted. hard_drive_0 points to a HDF file, while hard_drive_1 and hard_drive_2 point to folders. Whenever I create a new folder on either of hard_drive_1 or hard_drive_2 it is created with the permissions "drw-r--r--" which means files cannot be created inside it.

This happens when I use the makedir command in a CLI window or if I create the folder from the Workbench. It causes installation scripts to fail when they create a folder and then try to copy a file into that folder.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I will try to reproduce the problem later tonight!

Edit: Problem confirmed (probably easily fixed).

Edit 2: Fixed. Will put out a new beta soon, possibly tonight.

Version 0.911beta1

Changes since 0.9.10:

* Fix execute permissions to directories created on virtual file system (Mac, Linux).
* Added support for Xbox 360 cabled controller.
* Support new path prefixes: $app/ (directory containing executable (Windows) or .app bundle (Mac OS X), $exe/ (directory containing actual executable), and $fsuae/ (the base directory for files - defaults to My Documents/FS-UAE).

Frode - here are some pictures as to what I'm experiencing in terms of graphics

As you can see, the emulation screen for Amiga runs fine - but the menu just white with blue bars...

I am using Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family.

Yes, I have gotten a similar bug report on e-mail:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/692/31051146.png/
OpenGL information
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/254/44534616.png/
(This was a Geforce 440 Go with OpenGL 1.5 drivers)

Likely problem: not up-to-date OpenGL support. The amiga video output itself is just an old-school quad, but the text is rendered on FBOs, which requires OpenGL 3.0, i think (is probably available in earlier versions as extension). So either you must update the OpenGL driver, if possible, or I reprogram FS-UAE to use older OpenGL techniques.

The text is mostly static anyway, so I could just render the text on the CPU and upload the resulting image to texture instead. And it's not only text rendering that's weird, but everything can probably be explained by lacking OpenGL features.

We'll see, must try to find a "crappy" computer first ;-)

Edit: Looks like the 945 chipset only supports OpenGL 1.4: http://www.intel.com/support/graphic.../CS-021517.htm
