I'm sure there will be a lot more of the same question cropping up. Much appreciated! |

Are they different model of Hinyx RAM? If not, and is the same model Stephen posted about and the one I have, HNY5118160B TC-60, as per spec-sheet, it is absolutely impossible for them to work. Sure, it might appear to you that they work, like it did to me at first, but they don't.
Also about that particular game, it doesn't have to just boot, it has to play through fine. Did you play it? you need to do more in-depth tests. Did you see the video I posted before? You can see Alfred Chicken bombing out after you start the game only: [ Show youtube player ] Skip to 25m41s I realize you insist because of this: Quote:
If you have a different part number though, share it! |

My understanding is that these chips exist in both 4K and 1K versions and are labelled the same. Am I wrong?

Ah scratch that. There is an "8" instead of a "6". So Kipper, your chips are 1K that's why they work. See the datasheet:
HY5118160B 1K HY5116160B 4K Notice the "8" instead of the "6". |

I have the exact same chips. It's 5118 not 5116. But the board doesn't work with IDE unplugged. There isn't a difference in what I have. But then what does not apply is Stephen's theory. I posted a video of what my board is doing, can't you post one of your tests? Quote:

Stedy was here yesterday but didn't post. A shame, would have been good to get his input.
But now that we know that the chips kipper and I have are 1K, it changes everything. Supaduper, what firmware is my TF328 running? (Is there any way for me to tell? Man, I should get that Xilinx programmer quickly). And what is wrong with debating this? Determining if the problem I have is general or particular is important. FW version COULD be an issue. I am glad Alen had eagle's eye and spotted that our chips are 1K. We can discard that!! I still think you aren't testing thoroughly enough, though. That's why I made a live stream showing what I was doing, what I was testing, and the results. A debate about boards using this RAM has only brought forward progress in my opinion! We figured out the 4K/1K problem, and that these Hinyx chips are 1K. We also found at least one board with a weird issue (mine) that remains to be seen what causes it. |

My totally uneducated opinion is that there is something else going on, I don't think the 4K ram chips would magically work with something as random as connecting an IDE device. Logically it would seem that there is some sort of electrical capacitance/interference at play. Once again, I could be 100% wrong.
Akira, can you reproduce this issue 100% of the time? Does it happen if you simply take out the CF card from the adapter, but leave the adapter plugged in? |

And yes, it happens in both cases, I tried both. Just to be thorough, a closeup of my chips, showing they are the 1K variant: They are the exact same part as kipper's mask and all. You know, maybe I should send you the card, Alen. See what you find! Or maybe Stephen wants it. Dunno. Willing to help as much as I can. |
