Yet another S-video mod (for A600/A1200)
This is not at all a new, cool, ingenious mod, but just a remake of an old one. It comes complete with schematics, board layout and a few pictures (all clickable for a mega-large version )
For all of you who are familiar with Eagle, here are the sch and brd files. If you prefer pdf, the fileset is here. And this is how it looks when assembled: ...from the other side... ...and mounted in an A600... as you can see, the connector is deliberatly offset to the left side. I plan to cover part of the large RF-mod hole with a piece if tin sheet. A picture showing how the board acheives mechanical stability using a pair of trimmed M3 screws and nylon standoffs. Here it is, screwed into the unused soldering holes for the NTSC RF-mod. (The PAL one is larger and uses a different set of holes.) The M3 creates a thread in the PCB, and makes the board fit really good! Here it is, with power soldered from the former RF-mod pads and a pair of cables coming from the Sony chip. I fitted a standard 5-pole 2,54mm connector to make it serviceable in the future, but You can solder the cables directly to the board (if You have a good amount of self confidence) Happy modding! /Eriond |

A bit of green PCB varnish and this board may look as it is built-in on the Amiga from the very beginning!
Well done, Eriond! |

That is BRILLIANT Eriond
I used to really enjoy building stuff like this and adapting ideas to suit what I had on hand at the time to construct the newest project. This S-video board is great, I have seen a similar one on here a while ago, but this one has the information and schematics etc. I would only make one change to the board if I built one, that's because as I have keyed connectors from an old video player and would use a 4 pin one so that the VCC would also be included in the one plug. Something along the likes of this (Just altered and not to scale etc) :- |

Thank You all for the kind replies!
@Allen1: Beware of the pin-to-pin distance so it will fit your connector. The Eagle default grid is 1.27mm. @*: Feel free to make any changes you need to the design! /Eriond |

Heres a pic of the cheapvid which uses a similar circuit. Picture quality is really good. Works on all regions, (obviously your TV must be of the same region in order to view colours)
www.kipper2k.com/forsale.html PS. Don't solder the Chroma and Luma wires directly to the chip, there are good alternate points available, let me know the model number of your board and i should be able to show you a pic of the easier points (all A600 and A1200 boards have alternate points) Last edited by kipper2k; 23 January 2011 at 16:29. |

Hi there Eriond, I only used Widows paint to move the holes so they are just meant as an example the connectors I have are 0.1 pitch and shouldn't take much adapting of your design. As I have said on similar posts, its easy to modify a project, the hard part is coming up with the initial layout like yours, modifying it to suit what you have on hand is a lot simpler than starting from scratch. Would a 2N3904 transistor be the equivalent of the PMBT3904 SMD? |
