The 100 Hardest Video Game Levels

Found this article, fun to read...

https://www.vulture.com/article/hard...me-levels.html

Some games I played, while majority I have not. Some of them I heard about, most are 'news' to me.

no Amiga games
Shadow of the Beast, the castle level worth a 1..10 position imo

I actually played quite a few on that list :/ Whoever designed the water temple of Ocarina... may your blade chip and shatter.

This is a list of games which are not THAT bad but then one level just jumps out as fiendish. Amiga games don't count, they're gnarly start to finish Shadow of the Beast. You walk too far to the left from the start, you fall in a pit in the floor, game over and you're back to a disk swap about 30 seconds in. Fien-dish.

The Marsh level in Lotus 2 is one I've been frustrated with recently, feels like a massive leap in difficulty from the first six, though I have beaten it before. Which other Amiga levels stick out for people? Beast 2, Cannon Fodder, Lemmings all have hard levels?

Post Amiga, one I remember is mission 40 (I think) in Earthsiege 2 on the PC, reached but couldn't pass it on it on two different difficulty levels.

Last Ninja Remix. The jumping over the river and swamp making you lose 1 of 3 lives if you miss a pixel... I'm not convinced that has never created axe murderers.

that mission in Cannon Fodder (1) when you instantly need to move the platoon, cause a rocket arrives in no time

or the first one when you need to 'drive' the vehicle, with that jumping sequence

Everything is easy when you practice and learn over and over, so boils down to how much time you invest in getting the job done.

For raw stupidity and unfairness, practically every level in Yolanda.

Volgarr the viking is also missing, with some advanced levels

expecially when you die in the bossfight, and you need to restart the entire level

totally agree with Cuphead

about VVVVVV, i have completed it in a couple of hours, first day
difficult but catchy game

Hollow Knight still gives me nightmares (not sure if it's the same spot that the article mentions). It switches from an exploration game to a hardcore parkour experience without warning.

Most modern Metroidvania games are like that for me though, they lull you in with a easy first boss and then they go full satan on you.

True. Sadly I'm too old to care about 'gitting gud' at games anymore. If they'll go full satan, I'll just go

Number 10 on that list, Devil May Cry 3 - Invading Hell. I had the european version Special Edition of that game, its "Normal" difficulty is "Hard" from other regious. I didnt know that at the time but damn that level is impossible and i never did complete it(even though at the time i considered myself quite good at it.

I never played the others from the top 10, have a few of them but never played them, backlog blues lol.

I dont really have the patience for difficult games now, mainly lack of time, play a game today, may not return to it for a week. Its only in the past year or so that i change the difficulty to easy if my progression is blocked.

From time to time I would pick 'long' game and complete it. But this takes loooong time.... and I hate when gets repetitive...

The only ones that spring to my mind are:
PS1 Driver- Last level called the president, done it once but took 100 goes.
ZX Speccy - Manic miner solar power level and Jack and the beanstalk and the swamp section in Curse of Sherwood.

Can't think of Amiga games that were that hard off the top of my head.

I remember some levels of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six were very hard due to needing to attack multiple targets at the same time in order to prevent killing of hostages. Some levels took me days to plan and execute in correct order to be able to finish game. Hate that this game turned into FPS.

I don't think I ever got past the first level in most games without using a cheat...

In the System Shock remake I got past level 1 quite easily, but level 2 felt like it got a lot harder (need to play the original to check if that has changed or I just got old ).
