Thanks, will try it now.
Maybe it's got something to do with my softkicked ROM. Will try it with 3.1 ROM by booting without startup-Sequence. Or maybe it doesn't like my 060 ? |

I'd like to have something like a "NewPAL" screen mode. It would basically just be PAL, and work on TVs and video monitors, but the purpose would be to have a second screenmode to choose which I can use the maximum overscan with, so it fills my screen to the edges, while keeping the default PAL screenmode centered and without any overscan. This is so programs and games which simply use a no-overscan PAL/NTSC mode will be centered on the screen when they open, rather than pushed to the top corner as they would be if the PAL screenmode was set up with overscan.
Anyway I'm going to try both of these utilities and see if I can make something like that, I think it would be very handy for anyone who wants to fit as much on their Workbench screen as possible while having their other screens centered. |

Nice thought, Cammy! Good luck with that.

It's turning out to be really hard to configure screenmodes for my M1438s. I can't seem to increase width reliably. Using MonSpecsMUI. Is MonEd any better than this? Maybe it's got more options?
I might try opening the monitor to see if there are other knobs for setting up the width of picture and horizontal position. |

No, it's not. MonSpecsMUI is the most feature rich monitor editor I know of, and MonEd can't hold a candle to it. In fact, the OS can't even handle it's edited monitor files completely because there are so many options, and a program is needed in the startup-sequence (part of the MonSpecsMUI distribution, if I'm not mistaken).

I can't work out how to make a clone of the PAL monitor driver which is recognised as any other name, so it can't have its Overscan settings changed without affecting the regular PAL monitor. I wouldn't mind if this "NewPAL" monitor had to reuse one of the other driver's names, such as DBLPal, since none of them will work without a multisync monitor which I'm not using anyway, but I just can't even work out how to do it. Does anyone know how to do this?

Ratte could help. Just ask him how he did it.

I have looked at and tried the available monitor drivers on Aminet and tried to modify them but this is something I don't understand well. I know Ratte could help but I don't think he would want to.

Indeed
the joys of a learning curve, I am sure you will get to grips with it eventually and I hope the satisfaction when you do is as good as ribbiting to the sunrise on a spring morning all the best |

I still don't get how these original monitor files were created in the first place.

Probably by hand by people who know exactly how the video part of the chipset works. It's not very complicated, you just have to know what to write to each required chipset register for the screen mode you want to setup.

I can not save the VPosY for my HighGraphx driver (1024-768) I change it from 20 to 40 and save it and after I switch to another screen and back, the picture comes a bit down and it fits perfectly on screen. Unfortunately, after a reboot, it goes back to 20.
I also have MIPrefs running at the start of User-Startup. What am I doing wrong? |

What about other settings (changes saved)? If no then you can try different start situations of MIPrefs. They are mentioned in the readme.

Other settings are saved. I have changed Totclk and Totrow to make the Highgfx mod fit the screen properly. (and also top 4 settings) I'll have a look at the readme.

Then try to change the tooltypes direct. All settings should be there. MIPrefs just reads the tooltypes. Here I have "VPOSY0=23" for example.
