ORIGINAL WorkBench checksums
Hi,
prowler gave me a great idea regarding the different Workbench disks/versions. Could anyone who owns an original unmodified (always kept write-protected since he bought it) WorkBench set of floppies, post here the floppies' CRC32 checksums? This could end up as a very useful reference for all users, IMHO. Massimo Newest (updated) list (16 september 2014): see post #177 Old list (28 november 2010): Code:
Disk CRC32 P/N Region Release Shipped with The CRC32 checksums are shown in hexadecimal notation. Bold Green color = verified by at least 2 different users / verified by 1 user and TOSEC / verified by the same user on 2 or more disks. Blue color = verified by TOSEC ([!] flag). Orange color = verified by 1 user. Black color = the user who posted the CRC32 is not certain of the disk[s] unmodified/original condition. Hi Supamax,
Thanks for starting this thread. I hope it will eventually grow into a useful reference for all Amiga users. To start with, here are the CRC32 checksums of the ADF images dumped from my Amiga OS 3.1 disk set, write-protected straight from the shrink-wrap: INSTALL 3.1 - 901,120 bytes $27B3C15A WORKBENCH 3.1 - 901,120 bytes $576B08F9 LOCALE 3.1 - 901,120 bytes $92F2770A EXTRAS 3.1 - 901,120 bytes $786A7C59 FONTS 3.1 - 901,120 bytes $A152083D STORAGE 3.1 - 901,120 bytes $B16AE967 I have colour-coded these checksums green to indicate that I am sure these disks have never been written to from new. I fact, I have three sets of these disks. Those I am not sure about I shall colour-code orange, until someone can confirm their validity. Out of habit, I have prefixed the checksums '$' to indicate hexadecimal notation, but I can change this if anyone finds it objectionable. I have many more original Amiga OS disks and sets from 1.3 to 3.0. I shall dump them and post the checksums here as time permits. I would encourage all users to contribute likewise to this thread in order to increase the certainty of the data. Thankyou, prowler |
Just as an FYI, the TOSEC WorkBench 3.1 disks that have the [!] flag also have exactly the same CRC32s as the ones you've listed above prowler:

WOW, prowler, what a beautiful post! :D:D:D:D:D:D
Thank you soo much for the appreciation and contribution. I'll add my checksums as soon as I can. Massimo Quote:
Although I don't know if Tosec [!]'s can be trusted 100% or not, this is a very good base to start with. :) |

I'm not familiar with TOSEC flags, so I wasn't sure what it meant either. :rolleyes prowler |

That's just what I needed. ;) |
Don't forget, according to PandMonium, it's not 100% accurate yet but it's close enough to use and follow ;)
I think PandMonium needs to double check everything with TOSEC/TNC etc before the 100% claim, although for what I see it looks 100% to me Once again cheers PandMonium for your help, knowledge and the .PDF, which is better and easier on the eyes than the original .TXT one :great |
I have two sets of Workbench 2.1 disks. The first set is version 38.35, but they were used when I received them, so I cannot be certain they have never been modified.
Code:
Workbench 2.1 (version 38.35) Code:
Workbench 2.1 (version 38.36) [EDIT] fix version number on second set. |

Thanks for adding your Workbench 2.1 checksums to this thread. :great I also have a set of Workbench 2.1 disks, write-protected from new. I'll make it a priority to dump them in the next couple of days to see if I can confirm either of your sets. Additionally, I'll report the version of the Workbench 3.1 set. (It slipped my mind to do this originally.) |
@ Redwood and prowler
Thank you very much for your contribution! :) |
It occurred to me that the Commodore/Escom part numbers would be a less ambiguous way of identifying precisely which disk a checksum refers to. I've added the part numbers to the table below:
Code:
(Disk) (CRC32) (P/N) (Revision) |
@ Redwood
Good idea! :great I'll update the first post |
Hi Supamax,
This thread is shaping up nicely. Well done, mate! :great I should have some more checksums and version/part numbers to upload for you soon. I've got a dumping session planned for tomorrow. :) prowler |
Clearly I have too many Workbench disks. Here's the checksums of my Workbench 1.3 disks
Code:
(Disk) (CRC32) (P/N) |
I have this evening dumped my Workbench 2.1 and 3.0 sets.
First, here are the CRC32 checksums of the ADF images dumped from my Amiga OS 2.1 disk set (version 38.36): INSTALL 2.1 - $7CD65533 (P/N 370166-02) WORKBENCH 2.1 - $6875BEF7 (P/N 370167-02) EXTRAS 2.1 - $0A2F739A (P/N 370168-01) FONTS 2.1 - $CDB3C7ED (P/N 370169-01) LOCALE 2.1 - $8EFF6422 (P/N 370170-01) I have colour-coded these checksums green, even though they do not agree with those for Redwood's version 38.36 set, because I bought these new from Eyetech and they have been write-protected straight from the wrapping. Second, here are the CRC32 checksums of the ADF images dumped from my Amiga OS 3.0 disk sets (version 39.29), again write-protected from new: WORKBENCH 3.0 - $A4D9752D (P/N 370127-02) LOCALE 3.0 - $67835FE5 (P/N 370129-01) EXTRAS 3.0 - $95DA642D (P/N 370128-01) FONTS 3.0 - $242FF841 (P/N 370191-01) STORAGE 3.0 - $0C8C24D5 (P/N 370150-01) Again, I have colour-coded these checksums green to indicate that I am sure these disks have never been written to from new. I fact, I have two sets of these disks: One is an original Commodore Amiga set with the part numbers shown, and the second is an Eyetech set of "replacement" Workbench 3.0 disks. Both sets thave the same checksums. These sets do not include an Install disk, but the Eyetech set was supplied with an "A1200 Hard Drive Partitioning & WB Installation disk", Serial Number HD00010362 with CRC32 checksum $FEC4F100. BTW, I can confirm that my Amiga OS 3.1 disk sets are version 40.42 with the same part numbers given by Redwood. Next, I will dump my 2.04, 2.05 and 1.x sets. prowler |
@prowler
Intriguing... My Workbench 2.1 (v 38.36) disks were recently purchased, and don't even have a write protect tab (i.e. its impossible that they were ever written to). And yet the checksums you're seeing are different than mine. |
Quote:
I guess they're both genuine sets. It would be most unlikely that every disk of either set had been accidentally written to. I wonder what checksums TOSEC has listed for this set. Maybe DamienD could enlighten us? |
Here are the CRC32 for the Install and Workbench disk from TOSEC :
Workbench v2.1 rev 38.36 (1992)(Commodore)(M10)(Disk 1 of 5)(Install).adf $D61709BB Workbench v2.1 rev 38.36 (1992)(Commodore)(M10)(Disk 2 of 5)(Workbench).adf $48589399 |
