WinUAE: OS4.1 File copying problems

Ciao Toni, i found that with OS4.1 copy a large amount of data folder PC shared, in addition to being very slow happens that copying is blocks,in some cases also WinUAE goes to block.
Example if i try to copy the files in AISS (8.931 file) the times are very long, and then it stops copying, with the same PC (Dual Core Win7 32Bit 4GB RAM) and OS3 (AFA OS) i can copy all 8.931 file in 2 minutes.

No one has this problem? someone tried to make a copy of AISS?

Toni Wilen 05 January 2017 20:37

I don't think anyone bothers to do any testing without more details.

It is simply trying to copy the contents of the folder AISS on HD OS4.1, very long time with probable copy block. Same operation on OS3 2 minutes

I saw my bad english, if you need a good video demonstration

I enclose two screenshots exhaustive of copying between test between OS4.1 and OS3 AFA OS. The block only happens with Dopus4 and if in the meantime the PC uses Windows.

Toni confirm with even more tests done by another user of Italian forum that copying directories with many files as of AISS from Dopus4 or from Workbench (windows shared directory) almost always crashes corrupting the filesystem (NODOS), filesystem used SFS.
Before the update in many years had never bribed a Hardfile, I add that with a PC with multiple cores does with more memory not suffer from these problems, now I do not know if the problem is only on older PCs, I use a dual core.

Did other tests configured Hardfile as HD Controller "SCSI Accelerator". Copying slowness equals, from the workbench you can copy AISS folder in 20 Minutes. With Dopus4 there is always the copy block, but there are no corruptions, repeated several times the test.

I think this may be same problem that I noticed long time ago but it happens far too rarely (practically never) which makes it impossible to debug.

Sorry but "buy a better PC" is the only current workaround. Until someone finds a way to duplicate it 100% reliable with single operation, without random wait times.

AMIGASYSTEM 08 January 2017 13:41

You confirm rare if you use the Filesystem "SCSI Accelerator" but if you copy the folder "ASIS" with File System "UAE" It happens almost always, I made other test with my Laptop to 64Bit (Dual Core 4GM RAM); with OS3 never happened in many years.
