New C64 Mega-game "Sam`s Journey"

Out this week, it's a bit pricey compared to your usual homebrew game but man this doesn't look like your usual homebrew game

No, it's cleary not homebrew quality. It's simply the new standard for C64 top platformer. Beats all commercially released games back then.
I've played it roughly 5 hours and solved maybe 50-60% of the game. Highly addictive.

Save game import/export tool.

Quote:
Disable the cartridge autostart of the game. The original Commodore kernel was unfortunately designed to provide protection of commercial cartridges against reverse engineering and will not allow to load and run a program while a game cartridge is inserted in the module slot. Disabling the cartridge autostart can be achieved either by installing a Kernal-ROM that allows to bypass the CBM80 check (for example "SpeedDOS") or by using a cartridge expander or switch that allows to disconnect the EXROM line.
Damn, i have to start the game from the beginning. I can't load a different kernel on my real hardware, only via EasyFlash. Anyway, this time i will get the 100% collected items.

Bought it. I love it!

It has tons and tons of secrets to discover. I am playing it on my PSP with VicePSP. The game is awesome. Everybody should buy it.

Bought a cartridge expander with on/off and reset switch. Had problems with my 469 boards but with a 407 i was able to write my old emulator save game into the cartridge.

Without a doubt, the best CBM64 platformer. I'll be playing this game for years to come.

The scene delivers: After the great EasyFlash patch (with an external savegame import/export tool available too) the game loads in good speed (no costume change delays) from SD2IEC.

how do i save progress in sam's journey? in menu (space key) there are only options 'resume' and 'quit'.
'quit' option only quits the game, it doesn't save any progress. i already tried that without any success.
within levels there are three options 'restart level', 'restart from checkpoint', 'return to map', no 'save'.
where is that save game option? which key needs to be pressed in order to save progress?

After every completed level you are back on the map and the game asks you if you want to save your progress. Strange question, it seems you haven't completed any level yet.

What version Cartridge, Disk? Emulator or Real C64? The game asks the first time you've completed a level if you want to save. When you replay the level and get e.g. a lower score than the 94% for level 2, the game isn't saved and don't ask for saving the game. Which makes sense. If you get 95% though the game asks again if you want to save.

As you can see here, the game asks for saving the game. Don't know your setup with Cloanto since i never use the bloated crapware for emulation. Though the question for saving the game should appear there too. Strange.

now i tried it without trainer, this time saving works. so it seems, saving is deactivated if any trainer option is active... thus using any trainer option (i used the key for cloth changing) forces player to complete the game at once. not good... not using trainer for at least cloth changing makes the game much more difficult.

Who needs a trainer for that game? You literally have unlimited lives by game design. Only challenge ist to complete the game with 100% in every level. Which takes indeed some hours more.

This destroys the whole strategic fun of the game. It isn't just a simple platformer. You have to collect and use the costumes in the right order to get 100% in some of the levels.

yeah, it's the 100% collecting thing. for some of these coins you need special clothes/abilities (for example ninja's wall grab or jetpack) to reach. and my problem is, i'm loosing it very quick due to some silly mistakes and when i need an ability, i don't have it. my problem is, i'm not pro at gaming, casual if anything.

I would suggest that you complete the game with the % you can get the first time and then revisit the levels later for 100%. It's more satisfying that way. Believe me. I had 58% in total the first time and it was pure fun. I like the boss enemies after each world.
