Would there be any interest in batch converting all available IPF image files to HFEv3 and hosting the whole lot on the EAB file server?

This would be a useful library of original uncracked titles for use on Gotek.

I don't, i ask to the dumper to dump his disk in kryoflux format with its greasleweasle.
Yes, I was meaning that only you can do an official conversion to the ipf format (from SCP or KF formats provided by users)

Maybe a stupid question (I mean: already asked before by somebody): is it impossible or super-difficult to add direct IPF support to FlashFloppy?
This would completely avoid the need to do IPF-HFEv3 conversions for Gotek use.

Not always, unfortunately.
There are titles which don't load from SCP (but load fine when converted to STX). Maybe because of the specific loader, I didn't investigate.
I discovered that during my tests... can't remember which ones, though

Thanks! It's clear now

This is what Keir said on this matter:

I was intending to add native IPF support to FlashFloppy for the newest Goteks with more RAM and CPU power. However I realised that supporting conversion to HFEv3 is good enough, and a lot easier!
So no real need to add native IPF support as HFEv3 will work on all Goteks with FlashFloppy!

Ok, thanks

BarryB, one question: the .stx of Giana (Atari ST) you uploaded to The Zone is directly derived from the .scp, without any trick?
A friend of mine said that all releases of Giana have a laser hole protection... is that true or...?

Would you upload the flux file to The Zone, for preservation? Unless it's already on the FTP server.

Yes, I put each SCP into Aufit and it spat out an STX, no voodoo involved!!

I don't have any flux files of Giana though!

The Giana flux file you converted to .stx. Where can I find it?

There's only the .stx file.

I was meaning the flux file (KF RAW or SCP)

My files were made with the latestHxCFloppyEmulator 2.14.4.1.
I will zone my ChaosStrikesBack files to test it.

The HFEv3 created by HxC tools does not handle the weak bits in the protection track at all. Probably it will work for a while longer but I would expect it to fail protection checks sooner or later.
Hello,

I saw the above posts yesterday, here are my findings so far :

- I tried the DungeonMasterv2.2.hfe and as reported by PascalDe73, all is working fine.

- I tried the ChaosStrikesBack.hfe and as reported by PascalDe73, i reproduced the same issue. I found the root cause : This game write to the disk right after the language selection menu. And there is an issue because the GW HFEv3 files doesn't specify the Floppy Interface to use (the target machine).
Anyway : By just forcing the AMIGA_DD interface mode in the firmware menu is enough to make ChaosStrikesBack.hfe working too on the HxC firmware for Gotek !

- I have checked the HxC Floppy Emulator firmware code regarding the HFEv3 files handling and yes, by design, the RAND_OPCODE can already follows a SKIPBITS_OPCODE and produce the expected 1<>8 bits weakbits pulses. So there is no modification/update to apply to the HxC Floppy Emulator firmware to read/decode these HFEv3.

So all of this is rather good

About the HxCFloppyEmulator software:

- The HFEv3 loader was fixed according to the HxC firmware behavior yesterday (on the repository, not released yet).

- I still have to look to the HFEv3 writer (and probably to the IPF loader too).

This is great, I am not producing totally broken HFEv3 images. Although...

I suppose I should at least allow this to be manually specified when creating an HFE. I thought interface mode would affect only pin 2/34 configuration, perhaps it sets the write bitrate too (or something)? Is interface mode 0xFF just bogus?

I don't allow setting track encoding either. It's always Unknown/0xFF. I guess that's not breaking anything. Is that mainly used for hinting into the HxC tools track analyser perhaps?

BarryB: re: DM + CSB HFEv3 files. The Technoplus pack I have has DM v2.2 and CSB v3.3 bundled together - not CSB v3.5 IDK about conversion errors though. I'm still waiting for an updated WHDLoad installer for CSB v3.3.
