I vote for Tower Assault.
Although, was it actually title "Alien Breed III" ? I thought it was the enhanced version of Alien Breed II... Like Team17 liked to do with almost every game they made at that time |

I liked ABTA, felt the more professional of them all. What the semi-amateurish predecessors (which like all early Team 17 games) aspired to be.

It's the fourth on the series.
Alien Breed Alien Breed 92 Special Edition Alien Breed 2 Alien Breed Tower Assault Alien Breed 3D Alien Breed 3D 2 that's the correct order. I think the only Team 17 games that look semi-amateurish are Miami Chase and Full Contact. After that, all their games look very professional to me. |

Hmmm, i just always had a problem with some of their graphics thats all. Whilst their devotion to the Amiga was admirable, i always felt other software houses did better work.

The first one was the best. I just recently tried the 3D version on WinUAE and it was terrible. Maybe I just got the wrong configuration (used AGA of course), but 3D shooters don't seem to be suitable for an Amiga...

Do any of the Alien Breed (the first one) images in TOSEC actually work 100% ?
The ones I've tried all crash during the end sequence (if not sooner). It was like that on a real amiga too. The scroll text bit works fine, so I think I'm only missing a few explosions appearing on the ship anyway. |

What do you mean "These days"?
Are you implying that I lost my edge. In that case I can tell you I haven't. I never had one. |

Nice to have that cleared up.
Alien Breed used to be among my faves. If anyone lost thier edge it was me. Although one thing I didn't like about Alien Breed (although Tower Assualt doesn't suffer from it too much), was the fact there is a lot more doors than keys. So if you don't know which route to take you tend to get stuck easily. It made getting through the later levels a little tedious.... |

I had to go with the first one.. It's so damn fantastic and polished. I've probably played it the most too, although AB3D is superb to play. Those sounds of those red beasties rocks. It's definitely ripped from American Werewolf in London (someone said this in another thread too).
Why is AB SE not on there, it's a completely different game to AB, just the same tileset. KG keeps digging.... |

First one was on two of my ten first ever disks of amiga games for my miggy 500! Along with Leisure Suit Larry 1. I loved that game to death, and played it with my brother. But I wasn't very good and never lasted very long in these games. Still it was fun.
So I have to go for the first one, even if I just recently tried Tower Assault and were thoroughly impressed. Of course, every Alien Breed game have stood extremely well the test of time. Except the AB3D games though, they feel way too old. Strange that, the most technological advanced Alien Breed games feel so much older than the least technological advanced ones. Guess it's because Team17 did 2D graphics extremely well, and 3D wasn't far enough to even remind us of the quality of the 2D graphics on amiga. Actually, 3D graphics toady is finally starting to catch up on the extremely polished 2D amiga games. Far Cry and Doom 3 being an example. If every game felt as "clean" as they are, I wouldn't miss the amiga so much. Maybe not. |

Blackcornflake mentioned: How did the PC market manage the feat of making people upgrade in order to be able to play a game?
Answer: PC's were built soon as new hardware came out, and branded as new. Therefore any new PC's bought will have been equipped to play most games. Many hardware companies were involved with the pc, and with the Amiga had too little, if any major enhancements after the A500 :-/ If the Amiga kept releasing new models all the time (instead of releasing many A1200's, of the exact same model), for example, if a CD drive was equipped as standard, aswell as 4mb ram, and ever increasing as the prices dropped with hardware, I sense the outcome would have been different Still - AB 1 for me :-) classix are teh win |

Alien Breed : Special Edition was my fave, it had a great a much better build up to the fighting, as at the start the whole place is almost deserted.
This is the second long dead poll KG has dug up, work must have been very boring that day for the poor ape |

I personally prefered AB:TA. AB3D was good, but I've never really been too keen on FPS games.
