Logic Analyzer ???????
Not directly related to the Amiga i know, but it will be used on it! I have been looking at getting a USB Logic analyzer for a while now but have never got round to getting one.
Now if i use it as much as i use my scope, then it wont get used that much and so i wont want to spend much money on it. So i have set my Limit at £200. There have been a few times when i had wished, i had one already, like when repairing old 8 bit machines and now just out of curiosity i want to have a look at the timings of the Apollo 1240/60 at 80Mhz and the Mach chips. So my required specifications for a analyzer are not that high. But, at the same time i don't want to buy one that will limit its uses in the future. So i have been keeping an eye on Ebay and other sources on the net for a cheepy with reasonable specs and i have come up with this one. The software can be downloaded here. I have downloaded it and you can run it in demo mode. It seems OK and runs on windows vista 64 bit, a bonus! Can i ask if someone here with more experience with these things can download the software to give it a quick look over and give me your views on it? |

Hi,
I use the USB Instruments ANT16 logic Analyser. It is a 16 channel unit and with test clips, costs £220 (+VAT?). Seehttp://www.easysync.co.uk/ It works with Windows Vista. You install the FTDI CDM driver and it just works. Have used this with debugging a few issues on the Amiga and faster items. Software is simplistic but compared to the Tektonix TLA7XX software it is very easy to use! Has edge, pattern or state triggering. Download the software to experiment. Ian |

Thanks Ian, I have looked at the Ant8 & Ant16 and even the Ant18. the software does seem very basic, doesn't look like you can trigger from a bus. but other wise the software should work for most apps. But now i have seen that one on eBay, i will be going for that, as the price / features seems better. The size of the Ant is impressive, so impressive im sure id loose it in my junk draw after a while.
Thanks for your help Tony and Ian, but now i think i have decided to get that one on eBay. My search is over i hope. I will post here my review when i get it @toni did you try that software ? Last edited by Dimlow; 13 September 2008 at 08:32. |
