Giana Sisters audio quality

Not quite sure what would be technically correct way to describe what I mean, but it's about the filter that changes the audio quality (clear/not so) and brightness of the power led (on an Amiga 500 at least).

All these years I've felt that the music quality of GS is a bit 'dirty', but just before the next level starts the led flashes and the sound sounds a lot clearer for half a second or so.

Is it meant to be so or have I always used some broken warezzz-version of the game?
