Setting up uaegfx / Picasso96
I have been away from WinUAE for many, many years, and recently decided to create myself a shiny A1200. Most stuff came flooding back, but setting up the Amiga to use native PC resolutions seems to have eluded me!
In my WinUAE configuration, I've selected: Board: UAE [Zorro III] VRAM Size: 64MB Memory: 1MB Chip, 8MB Z3 Fast CPU: 68030 Chipset: AGA I've installed Picasso96 on the Amiga, selecting "uaegfx" only. When Workbench (3.1 installed on HD) loads up, no errors or anything. However, when I open PicassoMode96, it says: "Could not find any modes!" If I look in the "Attach settings to..." menu, I can select "Board0: uaegfx.card", but that doesn't seem to do anything. I used to know this stuff inside out, but it all seems beyond me at the moment! Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Many thanks! |

Picasso96Modes is not needed and won't work when using uaegfx. All modes are autogenerated and already listed in prefs:ScreenMode.

uaegfx does not support Picasso96Mode. It automatically makes all modes of the host machine available. Just use Prefs/ScreenMode.

Since P96 is still in development I'll try asking in the forum if they can add UAEgfx detection in Picasso96Mode and pop-up a warning requester in case... could this be a good idea?

Not that way. If warning is going to be added, it should be only shown if Picasso96Mode is not supported. (and imho Picasso96Mode should still show all modes in read-only mode)
Some day in the future uaegfx might (optionally) work like other drivers. |

Would be possible to show only those 32bit resolutions in screenmode? Myself don't see the need of other, since if you choose 32bit, you can also set it to 256 colours... but I might be missing something, perhaps there's some use case I am not aware, but with the amount of resolutions it get's cluttered really fast

There is a huge difference between 256 colors and direct color modes (16 bit, 24 bit, 32 bit). The 256 color modes are palette modes, which means that if you modify a palette entry, then all pixels on the screen drawn in that palette change immediately. That does not happen for direct color modes where a pixel "sticks" to the color value once it has been drawn. That may be of advantage, but also of disadvantage depending on the application. Given that the native Amiga hardware only had palette modes, compatibility should generally be better in the 256 color modes.
