I've added a HOL entry and shared news about it:

Great job by the developer on Pleades. This is on my own development bucket-list. Write a Elite clone and see where I can take it. But actually doing it is where the real stones are. |

I have to say that, while the engine is impressive, the gameplay looks a bit repetitive. Also there isn't the feeling of vastness that Frontier has. Perhaps the difference here is that Frontier uses a static starmap that rotates with the ship's movements while Pleiades only has the dust particle effect (and too much of it). In any case I love space exploration games and appreciate the effort of creating a new one!

Yes, I was about to ask the same thing, it's nothing like the coin-op nor the Arcadia conversion so I don't know why that name was used.

It's the name of a well known deep sky star cluster (AKA The. Seven Sisters) and it's set in space. So maybe there's zero connection to the other game.
The star map shown in the game trading and the names of the various bases are a match for the actual star cluster too. |

You get this in every internet product release in every forum. Someone chimes up, "Harumph, something else has the same name, don't you know"

Well, it doesn't take long to do a quick search first before naming your program to make sure the name isn't already used...and saves much anguish and confusion for the users. There are various other "Worm Wars"es, "ReportPlus"es etc. since mine because this step was missed by later developers.

Well, the name is "Pleiades 3D", not "Pleiades". Anyone familiar with the old game would know it is not a 3D game.

Besides, that arcade version advertises itself as "Pleiads" and not "Pleiades".

Along with Chaos Strikes Back and Willow, Pleiades 3D is hardcoded for df0: access so a generic WHDLoad install isn't working. WHDLoad install would be nice.
BTW, anyone checked the Subaru badge recently???.... |
