A600 - Classic WB Help with System.Zip
Which is the right version for an Amiga 600 with Roms 2.0 (37.300), CF for hard drive and 4mb extra memory? I suppose it's only GAAE or am i wrong? Lack of Roms 3.0/3.1 shouldn't permit the installation of 68k. Am i right again. Either way, since i don't have a PC in order to set up the WB package and transfer it to my A600, could someone please upload at least the System.zip file for me (68k/GAAE)? Would this be possible, pleaseeeeee!!!! Thanks in advance

The GAAE version is the one that is designed for you setup although 68k does run but you may get some errors when booting and maybe at other times unless you upgrade the Rom to 3.1
Sadly we cannot upload the system.zip for you as there are workbench files that are removed for copyright reasons. I would be happy to set it up for you if you sent me your CF card. Where abouts are you ? Steve. |

Thanks for your answer Steve. I suppose, though, that uploading a system.zip file isn't illegal since i also have to use my original workbench disk during installation so.......Maybe you could PM me if that's the problem. Or i'll PM you

the system.zip is made after activation therefore contains the files we are not allowed to distribute via the site. I'm not sure how the Classic Workbench real Amiga floppy would handle an un-activated system.zip
We need bloodwych to have some input here. Steve. |

Someone could just mount the ClassicWB GAAE HDF without activating it and zip it up in UAE/Dopus for another person.
Then the other person can use the install disk or another utility to unpack it onto the root of the real Amiga's DH0: partition. The install disk doesn't care if it's acticvated or not - it just unpacks System.zip to DH0: and replaces the trash icon if present. When you reset the real Amiga, it will run through the install routine as normal, asking for a Workbench 2.1 disk. It has to be a Workbench 2.1 disk though, not 2.0. So have one handy on a floppy standing by. |

Thanks for your comment Bloodwych. That's exactly what i did with my 1200 setup. Someone else uploaded the system.zip for me and i only had to boot from floppy and this did the rest. Unfortunately, or should i say fortunately, i don't own a PC at home, just Mac's so no easy UAE for me. Anyway, if someone could still help me with a GAAE version of system.zip a PM would be handy enough for me to arrange the rest. Thanks goes to both of you guys (Bloodwych, Fitzsteve) for your time.

Any news here Steve? Could you possibly arrange something for the poor "Amiga user-with no PC's but Mac's at home-so no WinuAE" ?

I just got my ACA630, and I'm wondering about what version of ClassicWB I could use. Of course I want as much bells and whistles as possible now that my miggy is '030 equipped!
I have been using GAAE til now, but when I read the "recommended minimum reqirements", I see that I can go all the way up to ADV edition, still having only ECS chipset. Is that correct? Although I only have 2.05 ROMs right now, I will upgrade to 3.1 soon. When we're on that subject; is 3.1 REALLY required or will it work with 2.05 as well? /Eriond Silly me. I just gave both ROM versions a go in UAE, and it came out quite clearly that I need the 3.1 ROM. Mystery solved (and verified). In UAE the ADV version booted up only with a "Software Failure" : Copper. Software failed (#80000008). After clicking "Suspend" I seem to be able to carry on... Interesting to see if this error occurs on my real A600 as well. /Eriond Last edited by TCD; 16 January 2011 at 22:27. Reason: Back to back posts merged. Use the edit function. |

I'm afraid you will need 3.0/1 ROMS. You also need to disable copper before running it on an ECS machine (top menubar->Settings->Copper->Disable), and reduce screenmode colours to 16.
When you get them, you can use any of the packs. mflos used the ADVSP on his ECS accelerated machine: [ Show youtube player ] I never thought an ECS machine was good enough for Newicons - with these new accelerators, I shall update the webapge. Last edited by Bloodwych; 16 January 2011 at 22:47. |

Hey Bloodwych, the ACA630 can re-kick a rom image so he don't need to upgarde the Rom, you can use ACATune to map a 3.1 Rom.
I suggest the CWB ADV pack for the A600 and drop to 8 colours, its pretty slick. Of course the ADV SP and even the OS3.9 packs will work but they will be a little bit slow even with the ACA630. But why not try them all out and see what you think. By the way, encrypted Roms (Like Amiga forever) do not work for the remap. Steve. |
