Populous Scenery Disk

I have just received populous i won in an ebay auction, now I bidded and paid for just populous, ,but in the box to my surprise was Populous, The promised lands (Boxed) and also a coverdisk which was featured on the cover of The One magazine...

This disk is simply titled "Exclusive Populous Scenery Disk" and is dual Amiga/ST

It seems this add-on is not featured with the hallowed pages of HOL...

I will upload a san of the disk to HOL ftp.. (also attached here!)

finally until I dig one of the amiga's out I cannot test the disk or convert it (IT IS NOT in tosec)

I have this disk too, but I have not tested it either.

I thought it looked interesting!

It's not in my MIA, but it should be. Can't wait to unravel this one. I'll try to hunt down a copy. Killer find, though!

Okay I fired up the 1200 (Before I swapped it!) but DMS was not having a bar of the disk (With it being dual format!)

anyway what is the best way to RIP it?

I know Fiath has it so there is no need for me to rip it for CAPS but maybe an adf would be nice!

Ideas?

Try Disk2file first. I remember that data disks doesn't have protection.

It isn't protected... It is dual-format

DMS will read Non-dos disks (as that is what 99% of pirated disks were distributed as in the heyday of Amiga's!)

There are certain tracks which are non-standard (Cuz of it being dual-format (Amiga/ST))

I reckon MFMWarp or something similar will do the trick

I think Disk2FDI might fall over, does it state it can handle dual-format Amiga/ST disks? (The Promised Lands data disk is also dual format!). Also I don't have 2 diskdrives on my PC or the inclination to add another!

Can one of the techies give me some details on dual-format disks please!

I cant dump this now until I get the new miggy running (I require a monitor cuz of the BV and keyboard!!)

Mine disk (Hit Squad) it's only amiga (without any protection).

Try disk2file or DiskWiz - at least You will have sectors from Amiga part of disk. Game uses only dos data disks so this must be also accesible through standard DOS system. Try also copy files from disk using FileMaster or DOpus.

Well it may/may not be standard dos.. it is possible to hide data within a normal dos disk!

anyway my ver of promised lands is not hit squad (It is full release) and it states on the box it is for AMIGA/ST (And the manual says it is dual-format!!)

I'll have a play once I get this 1200 running.. meanwhile maybe Fiath can shed some light on this as he also has it

I don't have much time right now, but I will try to dump it soon...

If I have not back to this thread in a week or so, give me a shove and I will try to get it done.

Actually, disk2fdi MIGHT be able to make a copy of this one. The program is capable of making images of low density PC formatted floppies, and the ST supposedly used that same format. I believe that the utility attempts to determine the format of each track as it goes, so it might be able to handle the dual formatting. In the case of a PC formatted disk, it seems that you have to then convert the resulting image to an extended ADF in order to use it with WinUAE, so something similar might have to be done with what disk2fdi outputs, assuming that it gets that far. In the case of the PC diskette that I dumped using disk2fdi, Thomas took that and did the conversion to the extended ADF using a program called tsgui, if I'm not mistaken. With any luck, maybe that would work here too. It might be worth a try.

It'll get there. I figured that the disk might appear soon and it would be better to pull any information on the game from the source itself. With so many things to be done in HOL, this wasn't bumped to the top when we'd likely have to make adjustments after the disk arrives. But I'll probably get it in there tonight sometime anyhow, if someone else hasn't already.

BTW. The data disk "The Final Frontier" also hasn't been placed in HOL, I think.

Populous Scenery Disk added:

HOL Database (id=4800)

Any additonal info will be helpful, ie date, screenshots, etc. I added credit for diskscan contrib (and to The Wolf for a different game in a different thread...)

Also created entry for Populous Data Disk: The Final Frontier:

HOL Database (id=4801)

Thanks for catching that missing entry, Haynor! We'll get to the screens soon.
