Games with hidden or disabled ingame music (like Populous II)
I just found out that Populous II actually has ingame music when entering "MUSIC" as a "special code" in its menu. Do you know of any other games where music is disabled by default (starting with ingame sounds/fx only) and can be enabled/switched/cycled with a key? I know it's a strange question but I didn't get into Populous II back in the day because it was so boring watching a friend of mine playing it with only the heartbeat and eerie silence...

Well, that's not hidden but an option.

I assume some games had to work with 512KB only. So either sound fx OR music, not both together.

@s2325 : Really !!?? Wow
![]() @dex : The background ambiance is the only thing in Populous 2 i always found inferior to his prequel. The "choirs" and the heartbeat i mean, not the sfx. But many things are happening in populous 2 so maybe they took the decision to remove the choir ambiance to have more free sound chanels. If someone says that there is a hidden music in barbarian haha, i don't know what i am doing, but sure i am doing this hahahahaha !! ![]() |

Pause game, type VELOU, unpause and press F. Press R to turn on slow motion, press C to alternate score counter.

I found another one, Elvira The Arcade Game starts with Sound FX only but has marvelous music if you turn it on by pressing "S"
![]() As you can see here [ Show youtube player ] , some people may not even know how great Elvira sounds ![]() ![]() |

It can't be considered as hidden though, like in populous II, if it is written in the manual. Many games are using the keys 'S' or and 'M' to enable/disable sfx/music.

RIght, still it is strange that the music is disabled in the actual game unless you read the manual and press "S", maybe to prevent people who just copied the thing and never read the manual from hearing the game's music... xD

This thread gave me hope I might find hidden music in Heimdall 2.. unfortunately not. Always loved the game but at times it just seemed too quiet.

@lordofchaos: same here! I have to recommend you the CD32 version of Heimdall 2! I tried this one because it was exactly the same for me - great game but why all the silence?
![]() ![]() ![]() There have to be more games where we can find a way to make some music play ![]() |

In Monkey Island 2, the music is a little too well hidden on the Amiga version. In fact, it's so well hidden it never made it to the game. Probably lurking somewhere in Michael Land's basement.
